I’m surveying many Mexicans living in Mexico if they believe they should have the right to bear arms ? I’m interested to hear what members of this board would opine, please state, if u want, whether you are a Mexican national or expat, living part time full time in mex or any other info that would help understand you perspective. Please state your reason why you would agree or disagree with that right? Also if not a Mexican - where your formative years were spent - though we know with time people’s opinions change.
Cheers
Look forward to the varied opinions.

Not sure if you’re aware that Mexicans can own non-military firearms for self protection. Mexico does not wish to emulate Gunslinger Nation, and I know I speak for most Mexicans when I say we wish the USA would stop selling firearms to people who seem able to smuggle a quarter million of them a year into Mexico with no difficulty whatsoever.

I live in Mazatlan about 9 months a year and in cd Juarez when I'm physically needed to work in El Paso.

If you are not involved in illegal activities it's extremely rare that you will be the victim of a crime in Mexico. Almost all if not all sicarios have guns and their organizations have an entire arsenal of military grade weapons, planes, helicopter and so on. No matter what touchy-feely security your 9mm or AR would bring you it would do you no good against the sicarios and their support of co-workers. If you want them to fend off some dude stealing your copper plumbing from your roof it will bring you more attention from the bad guys that you weren't getting when you didn't have the fire arms.

When I lived NOB I did own firearms and would again if I lived there, but that's not gonna happen.

My opinion, which is what you seeked.

The phrase, “the right to bear arms” is a very vague term. Americans and Canadians both have a right to bear arms. The right is very different however.

According to the Supreme Court of Canada, it does not.

"Canadians, unlike Americans, do not have a constitutional right to bear arms," the high court stated in 1993

You’re correct. The rights that Canadians have to possess weapons are not constitutional rights, they are statutory.

Similarly, the right to drive a motor vehicle is not a constitutional right, it is statutory.

The right to possess cannabis is not constitutional, it is statutory.

The right to abortion is not constitutional, it is... well, there is no law in Canada that prohibits it.

The estimated total number of guns (both licit and illicit) held by civilians in Canada is

2017: 12,708,0001
2011: 8,619,3282 3 4
2010: 8,383,265
2009: 8,205,454
2008: 8,044,572
2005: 9,950,0005

Years ago, Will Hunter took us up in the mountains to see where a stream started with the water seeping out of the side and starting a small stream. As we were walking up a cow path between a field and pasture, Will hollered at someone. Looked and here was this person on a donkey carrying a machete in one hand and a shotgun over his shoulder. Just like in the movies. The person was Will's wife relative. To bad he no longer does tours.
