No 5g in Mexico. As usual they're just trying to sell you crap you don't need.

Here is the best status report on 5g that I've seen. ATT does have the most coverage, but it's still very limited in scope and locations covered. Note that the covered cities already announced do not have 5g everywhere, and they don't adjoin any other covered cities.

This tech will progess quickly, but not fast enough that investing in a (very, very expensive) 5g phone makes any sense for most people. Also, try to recall the rapid spread of things like DSL that STILL aren't available everywhere in the US, I live 50 miles from Manhattan, yet our service only went to high-speed in 2009, and 5g will spread in similar pockets - wherever the money is, first.

If you're one of those who has to be on the vanguard of things, then it's your money. I use my phone for talking and texting, so the only benefit I'll ever get from 5g is that the occasional picture I send will get there faster, and I don't know if that is really a benefit, or just a feature.

The status report is here: https://www.tomsguide.com/us/5g-release-date,review-5063.html

Oh, to answer your other question, 5g phones will be backward compatible with worldwide 2g, 3g, 4g, networks..
