It's really good to see all the families here visiting. Lots of folks are enjoying our inviting beaches, our beautiful bay and our tropical sunshine. The weather remains pretty darn perfect, and the tourists continue arriving. The families all seem to be enjoying themselves, and a good many of them appear to be middle class, which is just what we need since they tend to spend more money than the folks who come by bus and bring their own coolers full of foods and drinks with them.

While the signs say to keep out, don't tell anyone that we snuck out onto what's left of the pier last evening to see how the work is going. Since the floating grua broke down the project appears to be on hold.

Beautiful pics, as always! Even a stump of a pier looks good. That'll hold me for a bit until the new one's built!

I know you tried Rob, but it defies logic to not include floating docks at the same level or just a bit higher than the pangas.

Did the authorities give any reason for their decision?

h4Dan - Good question. Why do so many people like to go to Playa las Gatas? Maybe because the floating dock there makes it more comfortable, less dangerous and easier to climb into and out of the pangas?

Nope, they didn't give any reason. They just went for the simple, more expensive solution. I suspect as in too many public projects the budget is the prime motivator for the "responsible authorities", not the actual building of a structurally sound modern universally accessible durable and efficient pier. But I could be mistaken.

Could you be persuaded to contact the water taxi companies/unions and ask them to apply some pressure where it's needed?

I'm guessing that with the planning that is required with design and materials that are already done and ordered (may even be received and sitting in storage somewhere) they are way past the point of no return in respect to making a change at this point.

It’ll have to remain a task for a future administration.

Amigo, although they don't comment here, the local authorities all the way to Chilpancingo read this page and our comments. That's one of the reasons I don't receive "official" accolades for my work: I kiss no ass except my incredible wife's. I mean, can you imagine what I might say were some public functionary to present me with some kind of official recognition and allow me within shouting distance of a microphone and reporters?
