The Peso

It's been a long time since the Peso has been this stable. It's nice to see and I think it's good for the local people as well as the tourists.

If all local lodgings charged in pesos it would be better for our tourism when the dollar gains on the peso. Instead it hurts only Mexican tourists when the peso loses ground. One reason I am against lodgings charging in dollars.

Those establishments, as well as others, should charge in MX pesos. And, have a sign posted with the proper USD conversion rate. Conversion to USD made accordingly.
Payments by credit card should also be charged in MX Pesos, and the credit card companies make the correct conversion.

I frequently pay peso amounts with a credit card.
The X-rate always comes out fair and favorable :-D

I agree. I am insulted in Cabo when my bill is presented in dollars. WTH??? I thought I was in Mexico!

I seems most short term visitors are always trying to convert the cost from pesos to dollars. I suspect the people in charge were not trying to insult you but were trying to make your stay more stress free. I would not feel insulted but then I am not very sensitive either.

Susy, that is because in Cabo the general mindset is that they are in California. Hence the name "Cabofornia". The California influence there is so heavy that it is reflected in overpriced goods and services. The state of California and the Baha peninsula together are like a country of their own.

My Chase Card shows the conversion rate with my statement amount being in Dollars. The conversion rate for my credit card is better than when I use a ATM to have cash. Because of the conversion rate is the reason I prefer the card when ever possible and also the air miles I receive on my charges- the more air miles the better for our r/t flight each year to "Z".

Not so sure I would call it "stable". Friday's close 19.3/dollar. 52 week range 18.2-20.2. If you look out further than a year the current 19.3 rate looks even worse. I am guessing most Mexicans would like to see it in the 17-18 range. I doubt that will happen. The likely hood of another dramatic drop to the dollar would not take much.

It's been in the 19s since early January with only a couple day in the "high" 18s back in May. I would consider that stable whereas the previous 18 month period, the chart looked like your heart monitor when you get into an argument with Rob.
