CFE question

We have monitored daily, at times every-other day, our CFE electricity meter for 18 months and have determined daily usage of 7-10 KW. We have documented the dates of all readings since December 2017.

Sunday morning, Aug. 25, we noticed that the meter jumped 316 KW from our reading Friday morning, Aug. 23. After the usual 30-40 min. telephone hold, the CFE rep blew us off, telling us, "we must have used the electricity as it certainly was not CFE's problem, and that we needed to provide a photo of the meter reading for both days." That rankled us even more, so my husband went to the CFE office to complain today, but there was a HUGE line. He returned home to call again to report a faulty meter.

Any suggestions?

I found the lines less 9-9:30 am. Have pictures and your bills. Good luck.

Since we have not taken any photos, but have a chart of daily recordings, are we s... out of luck on this?

In my limited dealings personally with CFE, I had good results by getting to the office at 8:00 am on weekdays seldom much in the way of a line then. Good luck.

OK, you have security. How did someone manage to hijack your power? Were there any workers around during that time? When we have legit workers in using power tools or tool, we'll use up to an extra 10 KWH a day.

158 extra KW/day is 15 times more than 10 extra KW/day.

Sure is! We'll talk. Rob's suggestion is a very good one.

No one should be expected to take daily photos of their electric meter. If you're certain you didn't leave something running and that no one plugged or tapped into your installation then make copies of your logs, go state your case as calmly and politely as possible, and if they insist on charging you anyway then consider getting a lawyer to get you an amparo and file a complaint with PROFECO.

I don’t get why you feel the need to make insensitive wisecracks about other people’s misfortunes.

No, lawyers don’t work for free, but if Susan uses the lawyer I recommend and gets an amparo and doesn’t have to pay the thousands of extra pesos as well as fall into higher billing category then (a) she’ll come out ahead, (b) she’ll feel good about having done the right thing instead of allowing the CFE to rip her off.

Susan G, is your meter the new digital numbers type, rather than the old spinning wheel and rotating number wheels enclosed in an all glass see-through cover?

CFE question - still in progress

Leemr: We have a digital readout.

At 8:45 am today, we met with a CFE rep in el centro. She confirmed an onsite visit to check our meter is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 8 am-2 pm to determine if the meter is faulty. To be continued...

CFE question - not sure if progress or not...

Last week 4 pm, Friday, after a week of phone calls and three CFE office visits by us, a CFE rep determined that one number on our meter was faulty. He wrote up a detailed report and told us to check with CFE this afternoon. Although the meter will not be replaced, the digital readout will be changed (who knows when). So we continue to read and record the meter daily. If the problem happens again, we go through the same complaint process.

At least it sounds like you are getting somewhere. Hopefully a good somewhere.
