Fish Report

Actually got the wife to go fishing with me today. Beautiful day on the water for someone worried about getting seasick. Went out at 7:00 looking for dorados. Plenty of life out there as bonitos were everywhere but we were looking for something to eat. Ramon and his son Ramon tried everything but we just couldn’t get bit. After a few hours we put on one of my Rapalas so my wife could at least catch a few bonitos. After about 4 1/2 hours we were pretty much done and had been trolling in for about 30 minutes and my Rapala went off again but this time it was a nice dorado, somewhere in the 15 to 20 pound range. Don’t know who was more excited Ramon our us, talk about hitting a home run in the bottom of the ninth! La Gula will be preparing our half of the dorado tonight, should be a great meal.

I may have my wife finally hooked on fishing as she has been texting everyone what she caught for dinner. Going out again with Ramon on the 31st from the Playa Linda pier. 2 to 3 hours of fishing and then the island for lunch, life is tough.

Thanks for the fishing report. What a terrific experience for your wife! ¡Provecho!

7:00 is a bit late. The sun’s already up. Ya need to get up and be out on the water earlier. It’s usually worth it.

Over a month since the last official fishing report. UGH. More words at this point will not be nice.

Going out at 9:00 on the 31st so maybe I should just skip putting the lines out. Yeah been fishing all my life and know it’s better to go early but I’m not calling the shots on this trip. As they say happy wife...

Very awesome! Sometimes its better to be lucky than good! Out of all the hours trolling rapalas, don't think I have ever had a dorado hit one. Just not their favorite target.

Lost one of my favorite rapalas on a dorado a couple decades ago. It was so close, almost had it in my hand, then one last thrash and it was gone with my lure. I was more upset about losing the rapala than the dorado.

We caught a dorado yesterday, too! We left our house at 3 p.m., loaded up the lancha and went to Playa Manzanillo where I snorkeled while my husband cleaned the bottom of the boat. Then around 5 p.m. we trolled on the way back to Zihua. Saw some dolphins and a rainbow over La Barra. The only bite and catch was a nice-sized dorado. Fish for the week! We got home at 6:40 p.m., so didn't take as long as your trip. There seems to be an early and late window for fish biting, as we always go late in the afternoon/early evening and usually get something. Glad you guys had fun!

Very cool website - Thanks! Lots of information. It'll take me a while to figure all this out. We'll still go at the same time (it's more for the heat-of-the-day/sun issues than when fish are out), but it's nice to see what the chances of fish being around will be!
