Is it ok to go up to the old abandoned mansion that used to belong to, well, I'm sure you know, or is it considered in bad taste or frowned upon ?

better to ask forgiveness than seek permission, I have not been to the Partheon(sp?) in the past 2 yrs. 3 years ago the Navy was using the parking area for its own vehicle parking and I paid a small fee -less than $100 pesos to a civilian to enter while a uniformed Navy person was watching. It is an incredible site and would make a great public park.

It's a monument to corruption. I think it should be razed and the land sold and used to pay restitution to some of El Negro Durazo's victims including my wife's family who were forced to "sell" him their land that is now the location of Embarq.

I my first visit to Zihu was in 1980, since then I have been almost everywhere including El Salto to fish. Although I am aware of the issues, as a tourista, I have found it always best to ask permission and to never interfere or comment on issues that are not my business.

Although I understand you have a far more vested interest than I and understand your comments, I am more interested in the Crocodiles and turtles that were on the beach prior to the Marina being built than I am of the politics.

I refrain from politics regardless of weather its US, CND or MX.

I agree with you 100 percent. It disturbs me when gringos go gaga about this fruit of dreadful corruption.

Hmmm - when we were there, a group of Zihuatanejo school children still in their uniforms were walking around the same time we were.....

We visited a couple of years ago. It truly is a fascinating thing to go see. I was amazed that some of the mirrors at that point had not been cracked. They were still intact. Here in America it seems that glass and mirrors are the first things to be smashed. The view is breathtaking. We hiked up the hill, there were several military personnel around, but we paid a few pesos to the gatekeeper and were let in. We walked around for over an hour and then headed back out. It’s worth the hike. Rob – I am so sorry about your wife’s family.

I bet that I could name a few sights in Europe that people marvel at built by people with a similar M.O. That is not to justify what he did he was corrupt and forcing people to sell their land I am sure at peril to their life is dispicable behavior and theft. That said I am still going to Embarc for a week the 5th time in the 15 years its been open and plan to enjoy myself. We eat mostly in town and use the services of the locals all inclusive is not our style. I won't visit the ruins just like the past 4 X.
