Romance in Zih

by ZihuaRob ⌂ @, Zihuatanejo, México, Tuesday, January 14, 2020, 13:30 (210 days ago)

My very first moments in Zihuatanejo back in 1974 were around midnight as we arrived driving a rented K-car from the airport in Acapulco, unable to fly to Zihuatanejo because of our Afghan Hound. But we made it. Pulled into the old Sotavento, checked in, changed rooms because there was no water in the first one, and after a quick glance at the pitch black darkness from the terrace it was time to get some sleep after a long day that began in a torrential downpour driving from Bradenton to the Tampa airport with my girlfriend crying. Lost my dartboard at the luggage storage in Mexico City, and that night at the Sotavento I realized I had lost my 8-track player, my music and my camera at the airport in Acapulco. Ripped off while I was carrying things out to the car thinking my brother was surely watching our things while I did so. As the sun rose the next day and I found my way to the dining room overlooking the bay, it was love at first sight! Just WOW! Though Florida had its charm, I was still quite sad about leaving our home in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and looking around Zihuatanejo Bay from the terrace at the Sotavento restaurant I realized I was back in a place where I felt at home.

Meeting and falling in love with Lupita a few weeks later only underscored that feeling. So of course 6 months later when I had to leave I was again heartbroken, just like when I left St. Croix. Going back to a world I didn't feel a part of.

Fifteen years later I found my way back to Zihuatanejo, risking everything for happiness, including parting with my then-wife of 4 years. We were already on our last chance for romance and it wasn't happening. But as fate would have it I ran into Lupita again, and it was love at first sight with her for the second time, and ever since then every single day I fall in love with Lupita all over again, thinking surely my heart will burst from being so full of so much love. Today is no exception. I surely must be one of the luckiest people in the whole world, and I feel bad for so many people with little or no love in their lives. ¡Pobres los demás!

A look behind the scenes in the fishermen's area on the downtown beach. Lots of well-fed and happy cats can be found here.

Ohh, I deeply love a love story. Perhaps, “ your life of quiet desperation “, is what brought you back to your true love. ❤️
Sean and I met in a very unconventional, and complicated circumstance. Sharing Zihuatanejo with him, and his response to its charms, sealed the connection. Grateful everyday. Much love to you and your life long bride.

That's heartbreaking. I hope you'll continue to enjoy Zihuatanejo and may the beautiful people and weather comfort you.
