Went to our nearby Kroger and could not believe the number of empty shelves. For get it if you wanted beef- all they had was high end roast and steaks(not many). Whole sections of the store had empty shelves. This hoarding is effecting everyone. All I wanted was mix for my margarita's- Kroger has the best "Light". Got Kathie her red wine in their liquor store next door and now we are prepared for a couple of days. We just had another virus case in our town reported- 2 at this point and a person in the next county passed but had other health issues and his body just could not fight both. There is so much false news you don't know who to believe. Because of very few case in West Virginia, the Governor came out and said to visit your local Bob Evans. Here our restaurants are only suppose to do drive up or carry outs.

Just curious, Paul was relaying his experience with the corona virus and you seem to be insinuating that somebody called the “Corona Virus a Democratic hoax”. Perhaps you could elaborate with some actual facts.

I posted the video. It's quite clear what he said except when he slurred his words.

The Chump is not someone whose comments you should be trying to explain away. You may actually believe what you say, but he said what he said, just like when he praised Putin and totally insulted the entire U.S. intelligence services and diplomatic corps in Helsinki.

For several weeks the Chump called the COVID-19 a "Democratic hoax" and essentially took none of the measures he should have taken immediately, leading to the unnecessary spreading of the virus with its accompanying casualties.

Paul has expressed his support for The Chump, thus Midalake's stinging comment.

The numerous blatant irresponsible and outright childish lies in this less than 2-minute segment of a recent rally speech are all you should need to know to determine The Chump's incompetence and ineptitude for the position he holds.

Paul and I don't agree on much of anything but I don't have a problem with this post. I don't think criticism is warranted here and it feels like piling on. But one thing jumped out at me:

There is so much false news you don't know who to believe.

And that, in a nutshell explains so much about what's gone wrong. Creating "alternative facts", as Kellyanne Conway once said, has been the right-wing strategy for many years. Steve Bannon admitted that not long ago when he said "liberals aren't the enemy but the media is. And the way to combat the media is throw so much BS in the air that people get confused". And that leaves tens of millions of Fox viewers and Alex Jones fans easy marks - chumps - for propaganda that pushes their emotional hot-buttons and gets them to vote against their own interests.

There is so much false news you don't know who to believe.

It's no coincidence that Fox viewers are the most uninformed demographic. The truth is out there but you have to go looking for it - to expend some time and effort to find reliable sources of information. Democracy can't survive with an uninformed and confused electorate.

What's a Bob Evans?
What I am finding interesting, is how fragile life as we know it, actually is. Small businesses and tourism are taking a major hit and many will likely go under. On a normal day, I didn't realize so many endeavours were hanging by a thread. Maybe I will appreciate those little shops more after this.
It may be that the survivors of this are going to learn to do things in a new way. Let's everyone put away the bombs and guns and help each other like human beings.
As we go into isolation, this board helps keep me from totally being cut off from the world. Please bear with me as I appreciate hearing about how y'all are doing, and want to know how Zihua holds up.

For your information, Bob Evans is a family style restaurant in parts of the States and is known for a great breakfast. I am totally surprised how insensitive people can be on this Board. I needed other items from Kroger(some areas are closing liquor stores) and not been to our Kroger or Walmart(Kathie had gone to Walmart yesterday and ran into empty shelves) since last week. I was shocked to see the empty shelves. I had heard in other areas of the States of people clearing out certain items in the stores. I mentioned the high price beef because there were no other beef items left in the cases. Just because I voted for Trump does not mean I like everything he has done and said. No way will I vote for Biden. I read where there is a "Never Biden" group starting up and most are from Bernie's followers- just like the Republican "Never Trumpers"- the group hasn't got momentum yet.

Now would be a real good time to have a huge Kentucky Ham, some Burgoo, and some Beaten Biscuits. Also to have the fixings for some Hot Browns (Brown Hotel style) and some Cincinnati Chile (don’t forget the crackers). But I still prefer reposado tequila over bourbon. And don’t forget, Bauer’s Candies will deliver Modjeskas. ;-)

I hope you and Kathie and your neighbors get through this all right.

Here's something you don't understand and will likely never understand: Obama was the best moderate Republican president in your lifetime, certainly since Eisenhower. Both Clintons, Obama and Biden are charter members of the same neoliberal club, and Biden will probably govern as his record has shown his entire life - as a moderate conservative. Don't get caught up in the obsessive my team vs your team partisan dynamic.

My sisters are going to small restaurants and coffee places and buying gift cards with plans to use them six months from now. They know that the businesses are suffering from cash flow and want to support them now. They understand that some of the businesses may not survive, so some of these might be “donations” to their community members.

And Trump is considering huge bail-outs to big business....the same businesses that had billions and billions in profits, but paid not one penny in income tax. The same businesses that benefited most from corporate tax cuts, and used that windfall to buy back their stock. More socialism for the wealthy. And you can be sure it'll primarily be dog-eat-dog capitalism for the guy in the street and small business. If the government goes ahead with announced plans to issue emergency payments to individuals and small business....good on them. And believe that I am writing my representatives to object to handouts to the airlines. They didn’t save their substantial profits. They bought back stock shares. Do what we did with the auto industry. Give them low interest bridge loans. But no handouts.

Canadians don’t have to squint and look as far away as Washington DC. We can look at Alberta.

“Health spending will remain at $20.6 billion. But again, after accounting for inflation and population growth, this translates into an annual spending cut of 3.6%. This will result in substantial job cuts in Alberta’s health care sector. Meanwhile, Alberta’s population is aging.”

“The (Seniors’ Drug) program will see a reduction from $589.6 million in 2019-20 to $517.4 million in 2020-21.”

Good night all. My original post was to reflect how I felt about the change at our Kroger in a couple of days from going from fully stocked shelves to empty shelves. I have a bad back with constant pain and pills don't always work and I help my pain with a Margarita made with a Light Margarita mix(better than the sugar one) I can only find at Kroger and a Bloody Mary mix I normally get at the Liquor Barn in Lexington (was able to order a case that I ordered 3 months ago from Walmart). I went to get some other items that we needed that was not available but did not mention in the post- I just said empty shelves. At the Grand I start my breakfast with a Bloody Mary- normally 1 but may have 2 depending on my back pain. I am concerned about the over buying of certain products like in Tennessee where these Brothers bought up certain items all around their area and went into Kentucky also and was selling the items at a out outrageous price until they got caught and the State came and took their products. Like I said before, I do not get all my news from Fox. As a example, Kathie just yesterday read where the billionaire in China disappeared after calling the Premier a Clown- that was in both the papers I read right after it was confirmed that he had disappeared. They both have Pro and CON about Trump but normally have articles before the regular papers or tv news if even covered. I will say one thing about Fox I have said before, why on most nights their programs have more viewers than CNN and MSNBC combined- even Bernie liked the Fox coverage of the Primaries over the other 2 . The viewers of Fox are not all Trump supporters. So get off your high horses saying I only watch Fox(where do you get your news MSNBC or CNN)- the 2 publications present the monthly results of viewership of the 3 cable networks- you never see MSNBC or CNN tell their viewers how their nightly programs compare to Fox or each other. Rob, you will love this, for you that don't know, Kentucky has the Bourbon Trail. The Trail is a fun thing to go. The top distilleries are members and at the first one you go to, you pick up a Pass Port and as you go to each on the Trail they stamp it- after the Pass Port is completed you get a small prize. Takes a couple of days to do all. Anyway, Kathie took couple of friends on the Trail to a couple of Distilleries and she had always had rum and coke. The rum has been sitting in our liquor cabinet a couple of years untouched- now it's bourbon and coke. If you want a good sipping flavored bourbon, try the Evan Willams "Peach" other flavors are available- keep it in the freezer and when you want a taste, it is nice and cold- after doing the Evan Williams Tour, we were in their Gift Shop and we purchased these sipping glasses that we use for wine also. The fun living in Kentucky- Zihuatanejo is our 2nd most favored place.

In regards to your back pain have you tried chiropractic or cannabis?
In regards to your touting Fox viewership all it proves is the absolute dumbing down of the American populace.

As far as Fox, all I am saying is CNN and MSNBC are loosing their viewers. I did not say Fox was better- you have to ask the question why are CNN and MSNBC loosing their viewers for they must be doing something wrong not that Fox is better. I will stay with my occasional cocktails and my medication plus over the counter.

The obvious explanation is because dumbed down opiate-riddled jaded Americans prefer sensationalism and mean spirited Foxcasters to news
You haven’t figured that out?

I have found some of the people on CNN and MSNBC not so nice also. All 3 have their sensationalism- do you want it Conservative or Liberalism. There should be a middle of the road instead of extremes.

Um, no. In fact with impeachment, and now Covid, their numbers are up substantially, though they still trail Fox. You imply that that's because Fox is a more reliable news network. But it only means that there are a lot of angry, older, mostly white people out there, and Fox is only too happy to give them what they want, which is a heavy dose of xenophobia and bigotry (have you seen Laura Ingraham and Tucker Carlson lately? Sheesh!!), blind partisanship and cult-like worship of Trump (Hannity and Lou Dobbs). And if, as you say, you read and watch other media, well, you don't seem to pay much attention to them, Your views seem to align nearly perfectly with Fox, which keeps you happily ignorant. Keep looking for more reliable sources of information. You still haven't found them yet.

In times of crisis the boys are separated from the men fairly quickly.

Some will give some, some will give all, some will curl up in the fetal position and scream until their last breath.

This too shall pass, act accordingly as how you wish to be remembered as acting in a time of crisis.

I will continue to provide for my family , friends, neighbors and community.

Live or die, I will continue with grace.

The sun is out, I’m healthy today and I will seize this day as my last and will be grateful if I am given another day tomorrow.

Regards,

I start my breakfast with a Bloody Mary- normally 1 but may have 2

I'm old and you sound a bit older. You've earned the right to start the day with bourbon or a Bloody Mary or a couple shots of moonshine, if you like. And you don't need an excuse nor do you owe anyone an explanation.

BINGO! :dude:

You don’t have to be “mature” and retired to enjoy life as you please.

Funny thing, because the mornings are so beautiful at the Grand, years ago one of the wait staff knowing I like Bloody Mary's asked would I like one for breakfast (Ixstapa alcohol can't be served till 11 am I believe) and of course I said yes and now the morning crew in most cases when they see me ask if I want one- sometimes 1 of them starts making my BM automatic- I do not start out with one at home(not the same). Another thing the staff knows I like Amaretto at night after desert and they make sure they have a bottle on hand when we come for our weeks- I have a Canadian friend hooked on Amaretto after desert also now. I got in trouble with Kathie one evening- coming back from dinner at El Faro's I said I would not have a night cap when saying good bye to the staff. She went down to say good bye to the kitchen staff. When I walked in, I was told one of the waiters made sure they had a new bottle of Amaretto for our last night- I said no twice. I was told the waiter would be upset if I did not have a drink. Kathie came up from the kitchen and here is the new bottle sitting on the table with me with a drink in my hand- Kathie was a little upset until she was told I did say no a couple of times and now she and one also. We totally love the staff at the Grand for they can't do enough for you- the waiter is still there and we laugh about him getting me in trouble on our last night years ago. There are so many of us who go down year after year have fun moments that will live with us for ever and that is part of the reason we go back every year. I am really worried that a tourist can bring the virus in. I just read the Nursing Homes epidemic was caused by the staff members going from Nursing Home to Nursing Homes not realizing they were carriers and that there was not enough protection at the homes- it just takes 1 person to be a carrier.
