While crazy presidents seem to be the norm instead of the exception at the moment, I'll take ours over any other any damn day! ¡Viva México!

But since I'm a dual national, I want to know if the nouveau socialiste in the White House can do a direct deposit instead of putting my checks for two thousand dollars in the mail. That would be nice. B-)

In case you haven't heard, the state and local governments have cancelled all public gatherings and events. No Feria de Petatlán this year. So far the Triatlón is still on for May, but we shall see. Sporting events are supposed to be cancelled, too, and the Unidad Deportiva is supposed to be closed, so I guess the Alberca Olímpica is also closed. The beaches are NOT closed. Bars and restaurants are still open. Water taxis, local buses, combis, Urvans and taxis are all still operating. Still no local cases of COVID-19 reported. So far so good.

Meanwhile, life in paradise goes on.

Looks like a happy camper.

It just takes 1 person. Look at the Spring Breakers in Florida, if just 1 gets it, it can become epidemic. I'm with you hoping it stays safe in Paradise.

Epidemic was weeks ago
Pandemic is now

I hear that some Restaurants and shops are being told to close. I hope this is true.

I do think that an influx of visitors for Semana Sanata, coming in on crowded buses and staying in crowded hotels is not a good thing at this time. I know what it will do for business here, but our "zero cases" can change very quickly.

I prefer AMLO to Trump any day, but he needs to get serious and not just think that "our Mexican culture" will defeat this pandemic.

Actually from what I observe, the "Authorities" already are more "serious" about the issue.
Whether or not the actions that have been taken so far are adequate and are providing the protection the population needs to remain free of COVID-19, I am not qualified to say.

Nevertheless, in this situation, I.M.O. it may prove to be beneficial in order to protect the health of citizens, to "err on the side of caution" however ridiculous and/or unnecessary it sounds to some of the "Paradise" people

San Francisco & New York City both under lock down with shelter in place orders. My elderly friend in NYC is trying to stay in isolation, but she is on the 28th floor. Any deliveries have to be picked up from the door man, and she says even when she waits for an empty elevator, someone always gets on at another floor and then she is stuck in there with them.
My cousin was flying home from Columbia for the last few days. Yesterday she made it to Houston and said it was creepy cuz the airport was empty. I was thinking lucky her, since I've read the horror stories here about that airport.

Re: " PV has closed Clubs and bars and restricting other businesses. "

Hola Mexalberta

We'll see if el Alcalde Licenciado Jorge Sánchez follows suit here locally.
Don't think that at the moment there is a mandatory requirement for that.
Possibly the Local medical and health authorities who are on top of the situation will change the status and may restrict or close some businesses. Leave it up to them to do what's best in order to protect the population under their jurisdiction.

What I wonder about is if places in Z such as Bodega Aurrera, Mega Soriana, etc., will also be closed as an additional "precautionary" measure? During busy hours, there are 100s of shoppers in some of those "big box" stores.

At the risk of more hate mail...
Here the stores are starting to shorten their hours, and have certain hours for seniors only. Hot items, like toilet paper and sanitizer are being strictly controlled to avoid hoarding/profiteering.
On the news just now they said the newest items to be hoarded are meat and liquor.

Where are testing being done in Zihua???

The airport is the only place where we receive international passengers, so because we're still technically in Phase 1 of the pandemia with less than a hundred confirmed cases in the nation (we were expected to enter Phase 2 a couple of days ago but that'll surely change by tomorrow) that's the only place locally where screening of international arrivals is occurring. Same as every international airport in the country. If someone shows symptoms they are interrogated and have their temp taken, if questioning reveals a test is necessary they will be tested. Protocols that have been in place for years.

When we enter Phase 2 different protocols will come into effect of which I'm sure we'll be advised.

How long does it take to get the test results? Here, well, in Calgary, my cousin had to wait almost 2 weeks for the results.

I don't have that information. You'd have to check the government's website. I'm pretty sure no one is waiting 2 weeks here for test results. Maybe 2 to 4 days.

The Secretaría de Salud just gave a press conference where he said we still aren't in Fase 2, but they are going to get ahead of the process and begin treating the pandemia as if they were in Fase 2, looking and testing for community dispersion which up until not has not been a factor, only importation and containment. So far so good.

A local restaurant owner told us "there is only one case In Zihuatanejo".
A beach vendor told us "our President has said that Mexico won't have a problem because it's too hot for the virus in Mexico."

According to the Air Canada website, departing passengers will be asked if they have a fever or a cough. A "yes" reply will result in a refusal to board, which can be relaxed only when the passenger provides a doctor's note confirming that the passenger has been tested negative for the virus. How long would that take? How many test kits are there in Zihua....if any?

Coconuts was scheduled to close 31 March. They just advanced it to 21 March....whether that's due to the virus, or to a dwindling client base, quien sabe?
