stores and goods?

I just saw an article that said that some panic buying has started at stores. We are coming down the end of this week from the middle of Mexico. Any one that has insights would be extremely helpful. Thank you!

Are the stores open? Yes. Are folks panic buying? There was no cloro the day before yesterday at Merza and some smaller tiendas.

Not sure what info you're looking for. The only people in panic mode here appear to be the foreigners watching CNN Freaking News all day. They'll probably buy up all the TP.

Thanks Rob, I just saw this article ... and was wondering.

Not sure what store that is or what articles are supposed to be on those shelves. As long as there are coconuts, papayas and fresh fish we're all good here. We did our shopping on Saturday. Only bought what we needed for a few days.

I like to stock up on asswipe and paper towels for our renters. There were many more Mexicans than Gringos at Sam's. Saw large amounts of TP at Merza today. Went to more than half a dozen pharmacies looking for Tempra (pain & fever), but no luck; they were all out. Any suggestions as to where I might find some, would be much appreciated. I'm out.

You're not going to have renters for a while. Forget them for now. Don't cause shortages.

Buy generic at Farmacias Similares or find a different brand name of Paracetamol.

Just for the record: I wasn't shopping for TP; I just saw a guy celebrating that he got the last package. We have plenty of TP and paper towels in stock.

Thanks for the recommendation, we found some in Coacoyul.

Exactly! There are no shortages here. The only people panic-buying are foreigners. Locals are preparing to look after their less fortunate neighbors, but are intentionally not buying what they don't need at the moment, the exact opposite of what CNN's Freaking News has been showing in the States.

Alarm caused by the Covid-19 pandemic is creating security problems in México state, where a gang of over 70 people looted a grocery store in the municipality of Tecámac on Monday night.
Dozens of men and women rushed a Bodega Aurerra Express supermarket and ransacked the shelves and displays, leaving them bare in their wake.
A video shared on social media by a neighbor of the store showed the empty shelves and random products scattered on the floor and out in the street.

This was not in response to COVID-19. It wasn't a crime of necessity but of opportunity. There is a gang that has been doing this around that area. Oh, and I believe the cops got some of them.

There's been plenty of everything everywhere I go. Not that I've been all these places every day, but in the last week I've been to all- though not so much in last 2-3 days, so time to do some errands and some stocking up...carry my 2 meter tape measure at all times!!

I don't frequent the Mercado because I'm still intimidated (from before COVID Time) by all the stalls and vendors.

I went to the bank today in our small British Columbia city....and the security guard outside the front door refused to let me in. He asked: "Have you visited a foreign country in the last 14 days?". I suppose I could have answered "no", but my 3+ month Zihua suntan kind of gave me away. I was allowed to use their ATM, however.
Across Canada, several provinces are now forcing - no longer just "requesting" - those returning from outside the country to stay at home for 14 days, under threat of fines up to $1000. And they mean "stay at home." I, and apparently, too many others, have been violating the quarantine, but no longer.

So you broke quarantine with complete disregard of your community and elderly population .

Unreal.

You should have been arrested and thrown in a military quarantine, fined and publicly shamed.

Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

I am far from hysterical, I am calculating and responsible for the safety of my family spread across 4000 miles.

I NEVER panic, ever. I run at trouble, not from it. My concern is for others, not myself.

Here's one such comment of yours. Laughing at everyone because, as you just reiterated, you have such a superior opinion of yourself. While I admire self assurance when it's warranted, you've got to admit this is rather comical and lacking in respect and compassion for the folks who are the target of your comments. While I may be saying folks are acting hysterically, I put it in context with specific acts but do not denigrate them for it.

Suggesting people should be arrested for going to the bank to get some of their money so they can pay for the things they need is indeed a totalitarian nazi attitude.

Nazi is not denegrating ?

Rob, you have two sets of rules, one for yourself and one for others.

Many times you borderline on all out racism.

Your Opinions that you demand others to accept as facts are downright silly and then you call others Nazi's.

You publicly shamed a guy on your site, it was ok for you to do, but not others ?

Rob, I will gladly debate you on any forum where you don't have power over me, otherwise we know how this will end.

Wishing you and your family continued good health and Happiness

Regards,

Peter

p.s, I did NOT say he should have been arrested for going to the bank to pay for things, I said he should be arrested for endangering other peoples lives with negligence and disregard for society. Besides, this is Canada, not Mexico, almost a cashless society because, well, it's 2020, so you lied about that as well.

In one of our small community near by, a person has been diagnosed with the virus and won't stay home. He has been told if he leaves his home in the next 14 days will be arrested and put in a secure place- like those college kids in Fla saying they were not afraid. Now it appears there are 5 of them that traveled in the same car has been diagnosed with the virus- I believe they were from Florida State(may have the wrong college but state is right) it is unknown how many others were infected. Better be safe than sorry- a friend in his 80's has a sign on his door, no visitors.

Yes, the situation and outlook has changed for many of us. It’s gets real when you personally know of an otherwise healthy person on a ventilator hanging on by a thread with Covid-19. An acquaintance of ours from BC, who we met in Zihuatanejo is that person. We are praying for her recovery.
