Sea rise pacific and zihuatanejo

Hope everyone is well. Has anyone run across credible studies on how global warming would affect our zihuatanejo beaches ?how much they expect tide to rise and by when specifically here in zihuatanejo and what beaches would be impacted the most. Appreciate anything anyone has heard or read. Cheers BE WELL

I have not read anything that indicates a direct study has been done for Mexico Pacific Beaches. Not that it will matter much as to what side of the land your on as water has a way of finding its own level. As with most reports, 50 years is the time when what you see now will be gone. Now and for the next 10 will suffer occasional damage, 25 consistent damage and in 50 if places have not already relocated after 25, then they will be underwater. Water World meets Mad Maxx. Sell your place on the beach and move up the hill. You will want at least 20' of elevation from current High Tide.

Here is a nice story directed towards Cancun.

We have hills which will help but Downtown and La Ropa as we know it will not exist.

Unless of course we're on a part of the land constantly rising due to plate tectonics. The geological history of our coast looks like it's on the up and up. ;-)

Okay, I'll get in on this. Sea level has been risen about 420 ft since the last ice age (more than 10,000 years ago). It has risen about 7 inches in the last 100 years and there has been no acceleration of this rate. Al Gore predicted that half of Florida would be under water by now. So, if anyone wants to sell their beach front property cheap please let me know as I am interested. No doubt I will have to wait behind people like David Suzuki and Barack Obama who in the last year or two have purchased beach front property. If I live until 100 (ain't going to happen) I have about 40 years which should be about a 3 inch sea level rise which I should be able to handle.

Oh, we have deniers! Too funny!

Yes, bad ol' Al Gore trying to make YOU feel GUILTY for your overconsumptive unsustainable lifestyle. OF COURSE you can't be responsible personally for GLOBAL WARMING DUE TO HUMAN ACTIVITY, and in your zeal to avoid cognitive dissonance you refuse to accept any responsibility whatsoever. Of course YOU know more than the leading experts in the field around the world who all conspire just to make Republicans look bad and Al Gore look good.

Extra points for mentioning President Barack Obama.

Give us all a break, Einstein.

Woah Rob. Did you respond to the wrong post because your rant appears to be about global warming? I just stated some facts about "sea level rise" from scientific reports. Obviously since I mentioned that there was an ice age only 10,000 years ago I believe in Global Warming. What in my post was wrong? Are you saying that Al Gore's predictions came true? Didn't he say Florida would be half under water by now? Didn't Mr and Mrs. Obama buy a " a 29-acre beachfront plot with a 6,892-square-foot main house"? Suzuki has owned houses in West Vancouver for some time now.

A rant? Hardly. How silly of me to mistake your misquoted out-of-context allusion to Al Gore for something you claim you didn't intend it to be. Whatever the data was then when whoever said whatever, there is even much more data now to draw from and to make more precise predictions from. Maybe you should be talking to Floridians about their disappearing barrier islands and coastlines more prone to flooding now than they were just 30-something years ago when I lived there. Though with all their dredging to replenish eroding beaches it's kind of hard for the snowbirds to appreciate.

I get it that for you this is all just a big "natural" cycle that has nothing to do with human activity. Cycles are easier to comprehend than more abstract concepts. But there are those pesky FACTS again.

More extra points for again mentioning President Barack Obama and now Michelle Obama.

You better be careful - the thought police will get. I am a geologist by training and always wonder why stating the facts that sea level was 150 feet lower during the last Ice age with about 1/2 of North American (and practically all of Canada) was Ice covered 15,000+ years ago is somehow being a denier.

Rob you have a habit of telling people what they really mean, but I really mean what I typed. I didn't mention global warming. Deny what? You must not mean me. The original thread stated Sea Level rise so I responded about what I have read about sea level rise. I mentioned that it has been rising for about 10,000 years and that the rate hasn't accelerated for the last 100 years. Al Gore out of context? I mentioned him because in his ground breaking book he mentioned that Florida would be underwater by now due to rapid sea level rise. What was I supposed to deny? Interesting side note: The Florida keys, are very young relative to geologic time and were formed due to the lowering and rising of sea level. I'll state again, that if anybody in the Zihua area wants to sell their beach front property at a discount due to sea level rise please let me know.

The sea level IS rising. Coastal villages in northern Alaska are having to move inland because rising water levels are washing them away.

I think the more accurate point is that sea level has been rising for well over 20,000 years but this rise has been accelerating over the last 100. When I was up in Alaska in 93 one of the villages I worked at (Point Hope) was moving their air strip in land because of expected sea encroachment.

I see you have a point of contention with the alleged denier. He says differently about the past 100 years. But more important is the role of humans. Thus his reference in the first place to his intellectual nemesis Al Gore.

We don't see that mindset among Mexicans. No one here that I'm aware of denies the role of humans in accelerating or causing phenomenon that are altering the climate in detriment to life and its ecosystems on this planet. The discourse here has been quite different than in the USA where an incredible number of people seem to have lost all ability for critical thinking and simply regurgitate the Faux Snooze talking points. It's part of what has caused such great harm to the USA's image in the world.

So the expressions "climate change" and "global warming" are used in a different context by such folks. In their mind it's just a natural cycle. Of course humans can alter the course of rivers and disappear entire mountains, lakes and forests, but not alter the climate by our collective activity. And that's the crux of it.

I would love to be wrong about this and see ZihuaRx embrace the accepted world view that involves the role of humans in the changes we are seeing, but I'm just not seeing it so far.

Rob where have I said that man isn't accelerating climate change? Where have I even talked about global warming? Al Gore predicted that half of Florida would be underwater (due to sea level rise). It isn't. The Obama's bought seaside property and David Suzuki owns seaside property. You seem to have trouble with those truths. If I thought we were in a climate emergency I sure as hell wouldn't have a website promoting people to fly and drive down to Zihua. This is a great board, but it staggers the mind to think of the carbon footprint you are responsible for because all the people who have discovered Zihua because of you. Also, if I thought the world was in a "Climate catastrophe" I sure as hell wouldn't fly or drive to Zihua because in my opinion I would be a hypocrite.

You keep repeating yourself. Obviously Al Gore bothers you, though he was only stating the scientific consensus at the time based on the data at hand. I really don't care, but obviously you do, and thus you open a window into your mindset that I simply commented on. I see you demonstrating cognitive dissonance and rationalizing, but nope, you haven't refuted my original observation at all, only provided more evidence for it.

That people fly on planes or use motor vehicles using fuels that are killing the planet to get wherever they want to go isn't on me, but you get an E- for effort.

Really? His predictions didn't happen? Are you suggesting the world's temperature isn't rising? You'd be in a tiny minority if you do. Haven't you noticed that the Arctic Ocean is now historically ice-free for part of the year? Or maybe you haven't seen the outer-space mages of retreating icecaps and glaciers. Sheesh.

And yeah it used to be called global warming and now it's climate change. But the new term wasn't coined by snowflake liberals. That would be your own Frank Luntz, the go-to conservative guru for all Orwellian doublespeak, who thought that 'global warming' sounded a little too dire.

One of the reasons I have opted for more winter time in Mexico is because the skiing keeps getting worse and worse, year by year. Ask a ski resort owner what they are doing to survive and why they are having to do it. This will be your answer to global temperatures. We used to ski at Whistler in -10c to -25 all the time. Now your lucky to have a -5 And people in the Village are wearing rain coats, in January. The Mountain bikers are lining up in March. Ugg.

In the winter in Alaska, the oil industry has made ice roads on the tundra to facilitate travel between drill sites. In the 36 years I lived up there, they have had to cut tundra travel time in half due to global warming.
