As of this afternoon Zihuatanejo had accumulated a total of 802 confirmed Covid-19 infections to date, 465 which have recovered, 258 which are currently active, and 62 of which resulted in fatalities. Local testing continues running up the confirmed cases, but hospital beds and ventilators continue to have the same availability, so apparently there hasn't been any significant increase in demand for those.

More and more lodgings are offering special rates to try to entice visitors back and bring the local economy back to life. Several of them are listed on my LODGING SPECIALS page, and you can find others via the links here in my website. Book directly and save a bit of money for you and the lodging owner. Every little bit helps right now.

I think it is a great thing that more testing is available otherwise you have people walking around unknowingly infecting people. This way they can quarantine themselves and hopefully one day nip this thing in the bud so to speak. I wish that much testing was available in the states but unfortunately it isn’t. But I won’t get into that. We come down in November and usually stay a few days in Zihua before heading to our home in Barra De Nexpa. There have been no cases there but don’t know about Calleta De Compos. We are seniors touching 70 and are very careful to social distance and wear a mask when called for. So far no symptoms but we have not been tested. You have to have symptoms to be tested. Does anyone know if it’s the same for testing in Zihua? Hoping that things do not escalate as more people start returning to our paradise. Have a great day.

Yes, testing is only done on people who present symptoms. There are not enough resources for random testing. There is an average 3-day wait between testing and receipt of results.

Lázaro Cárdenas has a serious outbreak, but I haven’t heard anything about Caleta de Campos or Nexpa.
Saludos.

You are at a 7% death date. And you are inviting visitors. Hmmm

We are? What do base that on? Are you a medical professional or otherwise knowledgeable on the matter? Because I'm not. I just post the official numbers and sometimes choose between conflicting accounts. Because I believe all the recent testing that apparently shows a significantly rapid increase in contagions absent a reciprocal increase in hospitalizations or deaths says otherwise, but I don't profess any mathematical or medical skills.

And I also know that our tourism-dependent economy with around 100,000 people dependent upon it must work to survive. Almost every local I see is now wearing a mask. But too many people here look too thin.
