Derecho, derecho.

Just came across a new, for me, English (?) weather word:

"derecho" - a widespread, long-lived, straight-line wind storm that is associated with a fast-moving group of severe thunderstorms known as a mesoscale convective system. Derechos can cause hurricane-force winds, tornadoes, heavy rains, and flash floods.

Last week we had a mini tornado touch down in a cemetery not far from our cottage . Though I have seen the devastating effects that tornados can have on TV , never seen the effects of one close up. All I can say is WOW it snapped 100 + year old red pines like twigs , uprooted others and flung them across the highway to the other part of the cemetery . Two houses one on either side of the road were spared, though their trees were also snapped in half . It also exposed the most recent headstone ......had the same last name as me .......hmmm

Reminds me of that ad in the papers:

FOR SALE: Large marble tombstone. Would be of particular interest to anyone named NELSON.
