I can help with some of your concerns. My cousin who lives full time in Ixtapa tells me that they are living just like we do. Mask compliance is high, and they have done some dining out but I do not personally know what is open or closed.

I think there is a significant risk with dining out and the CDC is showing this to be true. It will be mitigated some due to outdoor and open air dining but there is still close contact involved.

The BIG WILD CARD Getting there! Airports and planes are petri dishes and break ALL social distance rules! I truly believe once there, SMART living can put you at a low risk to exposure!

"Airports and planes are petri dishes"...studies have shown that, although you may assume this to be the case, airports and particularly plane interiors are very safe when Covid standards are followed. The fear of contracting Covid at the airport or on the plane should not dissuade you from travel.

Dear Dr. Steve,

What studies have you found that say that air travel is safe? The ones I have found from reputable sources do not sound too optimistic.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/faqs.html

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/travel-during-covid19.html

https://khn.org/news/what-is-the-risk-of-getting-coronavirus-on-a-plane/

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.businessinsider.com/is-flying-safe-right-now-coronavirus%3famp

They don't say it is as dangerous as being in a crowded bar but they don't say it is very safe, either. Searched for "airport covid risk" using Google.

Each night, I come to this website and get my fix of Zihuatanejo. I miss it so much! I am praying for two or three vaccines by early 2021. Until then, I have my screen wallpaper of the view from my favorite Zihua hotel, Bungalows La Madera.

Muchas lágrimas.

Respectfully submitted,

Frank

Thanks for the articles. Not one of them mentioned how many people actually caught it on a plane. I have read that it is incredibly low (especially if you don't count the first month of the virus. I did read this in one of your articles; Katherine Estep, a spokesperson for Airlines for America, a U.S.-focused industry trade group, said the CDC has not confirmed any cases of transmission onboard a U.S. airline..... So, I think I'm going with that. If Westjet doesn't keep canceling our flights we will be there.

I can't tell you what restaurants aren't open, but the great majority of those that I list here on my website are, and they are taking the necessary precautions to keep their clients safe and healthy, same as all the lodgings I list.

Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa's service and lodging workers have all been trained and practicing proper sanitary protocols for several months now since they were allowed to reopen in July. I've been reporting on this daily in case you haven't been following the Message Board.

IMHO, you are at much more risk from your fellow U.S. travelers than from locals. That is pretty much the consensus throughout Mexico.

Saludos y bienvenido.

You can look at my Brief trip report from a few weeks ago. Ixtapa is doing everything correctly. Temp checks, hand sanitizer, shoes as well and masks. Flew AeroMexico and while not crowded, had passengers in front and behind us and everyone in masks. NO options. Did a private car rental recommended through friends in Barra de Potosi and Ulises was Perfect for everything we did. You will fill out a Medical form at every airport you go through and before you enter MX. United gave mine to me on the plane to QRO and then again in DF on the way to ZIH and then again on the way home. A lot better and safer than here in the USA. Don't be Scared, go live your life. Semper Fi. Jamie PS sorry Rob I posted to your post but meant it for Zumba. Got it fixed!!
