When they are available you will go to your nearest clinic. We go to El Centro de Salud "El Embalse" on Avenida La Boquita past Soriana. Tel. (755) 136 5993

We got our flu shots here in the frozen north a week ago. Don't know if Mexico is offering (or pushing) the so-called "High Dose" flu shots. These are being heavily promoted in the US, especially for those over age 65 and those with that awful word, "comorbidities".

I Googled for info on the high-dose vaccine, then called our local pharmacy. They said there was little demand for the high-dose, blaming the expense
($80 vs free for the regular stuff), as well as the minimal extra protection, citing studies that show 1.9% of those given the regular flu shot will still contract the virus, vs 1.4% of those receiving the high-dose. Put another way, that's 19 of every 1000 given the regular shot, versus 14 of every 1000 getting the high-dose.

We got the "regular".

I'm in British Columbia. I was on a wait list for the Fluzone high dose. I received a call from the pharmacy yesterday telling me that all available Fluzone was being directed to seniors' care facilities.

I'll be getting the regular vaccine instead.

My BC pharmacist said he didn't plan to order any, since it was so expensive that he doubted there'd be much demand, and the additional protection was minimal, compared to the extra cost.

The cost of the flu vaccine isn't covered by Canada's medical plan? All of my vaccines are free with our insurance in the sates.

We pay about 50% tax in Canada, but flu shots are free. ;-)

Medical services, both physician services and hospital services, are available to all through universal health care. The provision of pharmaceuticals outside of a hospital varies by province.

In most provinces, flu shots are free for everyone, based on medical determinations. The medical determinations are that the regular flu vaccine is suitable for adults. It is provided free.

The high dosage flu vaccine is indicated for seniors living in congregate facilities due to being a higher risk population in higher risk circumstances and is provided there.

Many employed people in Canada have supplemental health insurance through employment that will cover high dose vaccine.

Varies from province to province. We got the FluZone (high dose) shot yesterday. It was free (in Alberta).

With respect to the Hi-Test flu vaccine, it may vary across Canada, but the basic, common or garden variety flu vaccine is free everywhere. My supplemental insurance as a retiree, through my last employer, would probably have paid 80% of the cost of the boosted stuff. We're fine with what we got.

Ignore ZihuaRx's shot about Canadians paying 50% in income taxes. I suspect he's an Albertan: their noses are always out of joint. In the unlikely event he pays anywhere near 50%, he's earning a tremendous amount, or he needs a better tax accountant, for, like almost everywhere else in the world, the wealthy don't pay anywhere near their fair share.

I always find it so funny when Canadians complain about how much taxes they pay. I find it is often people that have not travelled much and seen what is truly high taxation rates, like my birth country and many others in Europe. For what we get in services in Canada, we are actually undertaxed and if anybody actually pay 50% taxes, they sure can afford them.
