Information is getting to me about Mexico now requiring a return ticket before boarding. Does anyone have good info on this? God I hope not!

Thanks D

When we fly to Mexico, we have occasionally had a one way ticket. This past winter when we left Mpls, the Delta agent noticed we did not have a return flight. She told us we COULD be denied entry. We had never been told that before. She told me not to panic. She said if we were questioned on arrival, just to go online and buy a return ticket and then we could cancel within 24 hours. No questions asked on arrival as usual. This was to Vallarta, not ZIhuatanejo.

Thanks! Someone I know just traveled on Saturday with a Mexican carrier and were told they could not board if they did not have a return ticket. If so this is horrible news for us long haulers. The flight was YUL to MEX.

If you're flying as a tourist, not a resident, then you're supposed to have a return ticket. It depends on your immigration status.

Many of our US and Canadian friends routinely fly in and out of Zihua on 1-way tickets, and have done so for years. We have never been asked to show a return ticket. The thought of the hassle of being forced to buy a return ticket while standing at the airport is one more checkpoint on the "no" side of the ledger for this winter season.
It'd sure be helpful if someone could get a definitive answer on this....or is it just another example of Immigration-Officer roulette?

Most countries require a round trip ticket for visitors.

Is it enforced??? Depends upon the country and/or the person you run into.

Governments want to make sure you are not illegally immigrating to their country, so they need to see proof of a return ticket home.

Rob is right. We were asked by Delta for a return ticket flying from the US to Cancun about 5 years ago. We showed the agent our Residente cards and problem solved.

I may or may not have this right. But I understand Alaska Air is not charging change fees on flights booked through the end of 2020 (?). It seems this would allow you to purchase a return one way ticket and rebook later with only the fare difference at risk....
No knowledge of other airlines policies, but you could easily find out...

I have been flying to Zihuatanejo on Alaska Airlines for 6 years from the US and have never had a return ticket. I don't have permanent residency and have never been questioned.

I've been coming to Zihua for over 10 years and never had covid-19, so maybe, just maybe things have changed.

I have had to have a return ticket, several years ago, since then I always make one. I had to get a cheap flight and cancel it the next day to cover my being allowed boarding the plane down.

Coming in from LAX to GDL I only had to show my US passport and my dog's credentials from the vet for the 10/10/20 flight. Neither the dog or I have a return ticket, the issue of residency never came up last week.
