I recommend Spanish Plus online classes. Just dowload Zoom (free) and start a demo class. My classmates are from San Francisco and Vancouver, CA, and me, a gringa living here 5 years -- a mini-NAFTA!

The Spanish Plus teachers are all certified to teach Spanish, the classes are affordable and best yet, we learn Spanish from Zihuatanejo -- not Spain or any other Spanish-speaking country, thus we learn phrases that are understood here where I live.

Mini NAFTA. Never thought of it that way.

But it's true! More and more people are joining our classes from different states and cities in the US: Oregon, California, Texas, Arizona... and people from Canada too! Mostly Vancouver.

Gracias por recomendarnos Susan.

Is this the school that is right downtown in Zihua? It is called EnglishPlus, yes? So this is SpanishPlus, of course! (Sorry for being so dense.)

Yes this is the school that is above Daniel's. all of his instructor's are very competent. They teach Spanish in the morning and English in the afternoon. Two years ago we spent two weeks in classes while we were in Zihua. I enrolled in Diego's class in September and am able to speak some, understand some and red some. I am planning to continue in person when we get to there in December.

Gracias Douglas!

We're doing our best to teach Español and make your investment worth it.

It takes time and dedication to learn Spanish, but being able to have some conversation with your "Amigos Mexicanos" in their own language is a great feeling both ways.

Jaja.

Yes! That's us.

We started as an English School. Then we had Donna and Tim as our first Spanish students, they said they liked our classes and that's how it all begun.

Estimado Maestro Diego,

Muchas gracias por su respuesta. Me encantaría asistir a las próximas lecciones para concocerles. Ojalá tenga tiempo para subscribirme en clases para gringos que pueden hablar pero necesitan más clases intermedias. (No sé leer bien.

Any Alternative to Facebook?

by Little Guy, Sunday, October 18, 2020, 02:21 (41 days ago) @ TeacherDiego

I understand that I may be in a minority, not being willing to participate in the Facebook regime. Is there an alternative way to try the classes?

Can you tell us a bit about the instructors? Years ago I asked a long-time resident about taking Spanish lessons in Zihuatanejo. After a pause he said, “Well I guess you could, but it would like going to Alabama to learn English. You would learn the words, but everyone would know where you learned English.” :)

He said that Guerrero Spanish is different from Spanish in much of Mexico. He said that words are less enunciated. They are run together. When he travelled within Mexico, people would ask him where he learned Spanish. When he said Guerrero, they said that made sense.

To be clear, I’m not opposed to learning Guerrero Spanish. I might actually prefer it as it would make me fit in more. I just want to know what I would be learning.

I believe it was mentioned above you could use ZOOM. But you miss out on a lot of local information by ignoring Facebook.

Your long-time resident friend didn't really know what he was talking about. Yes, we have an accent along the Costa Grande different from other regional accents, but it would not likely be part of any formal Spanish class. I know of no Spanish teachers here who would teach you Spanish with a costeño accent, and I certainly doubt anyone at EnglishPlus would do so. BTW, it is not the same accent throughout the state of Guerrero. I taught English here for over 9 years, and I never taught anyone to speak with a Louisville, Kentucky accent, though I did teach them about different accents.

¡Buenos días!

Yes. We're using Zoom to teach our classes. I could send you the link and meeting ID to your e-mail.

Just send us an e-mail to: spanishplus@outlook.com.

And we'll reply.

As for us teachers. I totally understand what you mean by learning "Guerrero's Spanish", and people here do drop endings of words, but that's mostly people who haven't had the opportunity to study. We're not just Native Spanish speakers, we're trained and experienced teachers. We travel and go to National Congresses every year (Except for this one).

I lived in California, Arizona and Georgia and I have never had anybody told me where my English is from. I haven't been able to completely get rid of my Mexican accent, but that's natural since I didn't grow up in the States.

I can give very long explanations of what our classes are like, there's no better way to find out what reality is than taking a demo class, though. ;-)

Here's another enthusiastic vote for Spanish Plus! The classes are a perfect balance of conversation, grammar and vocabulary. I've taken Spanish in college as well as intensive classes in Cuernavaca and Granada, Spain, and Spanish Plus ranks right up there with the best of them. They've got the Zoom platform all figured out. If you can't make it to Zihuatanejo right now, treat yourself to a few hours of fun and learning each week through Spanish Plus.

Wow! Thank you very much for such a nice comparison.

We do try our hardest to make our classes be as good as students expect them to be.

We want to make sure that once someone has chosen us as their option to study Spanish we make their investment be worth it.

Therefore, we prepare for classes a lot.

Muchas gracias Norcal.
