La Ropa in the new reality?

by Yoder, Sunday, November 08, 2020, 16:29 (26 days ago)

So, I've been following the discussions on the covid responses in downtown Zihuatanejo, and surrounding areas, and it sounds encouraging. We live in Montana, and by the sounds of it cases there are lower than here.....people are just not taking it seriously, even though we have one of the highest per capita rates in the country now.
We have been coming down there for 12 years, and of course love it. We are planning on staying at Vepao and The Catalina this year, and my question is this. What are the restrictions on La Ropa beach, as far as chairs being allowed to be setup, restaurants being open (Patty's, Rossy's, Manglar) and are there occupancy restrictions at the hotels? I know there are a number of you that live on La Ropa and would have knowledge of what's going on.
We're hoping, but trying to decide whether we will still follow our heart's tug and come down to paradise in the middle of the pandemic. Thanks for your help.

We live full time on Playa la Ropa. We spend at least our first two waking hours on the beach, exercising the dogs, swimming and paddling.

All of the restaurants are open. Your hotel group has two chairs under each palapa.
The "rental" area with the blue shades does not exist, at least now.

Those of us who normally would spend several afternoons a week on the beach sitting on our own chairs and under our umbrella are out of luck. We are not allowed to bring chairs or umbrellas. Enforcement starts at 9am.

Please come!!! Our paradise is still that-paradise!!!

Am I correct that Rossy's and other restaurants (ie. La Perla) on La Ropa currently are not permitted to have their beach chairs and umbrellas on the beach in front of their restaurants? One of our favorite things to do in Zihua is to go to La Ropa and spend the day at Rossy's or La Perla...have a massage, eat lunch, liquid refreshments, swim, walk the beach, etc. And repeat the next day as necessary.

Do you know if the restrictions will be lifted/lessened if Zihua is able to get to Semaforo Verde?

Do the current restrictions also apply to Las Gatos?

Gracias

There are fewer tables but I sat at a table in the sand under an umbrella at Rossy's between 5 and 6 pm CT today 11/8/20. For the first time no live music at El Pirata , no restrictions start at midnight, for example restrictions on vehicle use after midnight and before 6 am, earlier shut off time for alcohol sales.

There was talk last winter of Café Adelita moving out to the former Sixtinos site on La Ropa from Calle Adelita. What news?

It has been reported that they did move, to what I call "The Place Restaurants Go to Die".
Hope they can buck the trend.

Yes, they have moved. Yes, it's a lovely spacious venue. Yes, we have dined there at least 6 times so far. Yes, they had music, excellent music last week on Wednesday night. Yes, they seem to be attracting quite a few people, many nationals because of the quality of the food, the prices and the location that also has lots of parking.

We hope that with Jungle Pizza across the street, they will continue to be successful. Of course they are following all of the sanitation procedures.

They are currently open from 8am to 9pm and finally got their espresso machine!

I agree with Talley Ho completely. Beautiful location, fantastic food, friendly and excellent service, all safety procedures observed and most of all the new espresso machine. I'm an espresso nut and have already had a few. Completely meets my rather picky standards. Go and enjoy!

No, it was Vertical, a band that is quite entertaining in our book. We have heard them at the former venue at LOOT and from a distance at Las Adelitas.

We hope, hope, hope to be walking on La Ropa Beach in February as we have for many years. We are very healthy people , but because of our age we are considered to be “vulnerable”. To COVID. Since you live there you are familiar with the medical response capabilities in the area, I am sure. We have travelled all over the world and made it home alive every time. Realistically , if we contacted COVID while we were in La Ropa( which certainly don,tt expect) what could we expect if one of us needed hospitization? It,s not quarantine in paradise that worries us, but we want to be smart about worse case scenarios..

For a couple who have been taking their umbrellas and chairs, to the beach, for a long time. Why is there a restriction on those items? if you know Thanks

When politicians try to simulate their duties there's no telling what they base their decisions on. Nothing scientific, that much is obvious.

I'll wager a guess that this has nothing to do with public health but instead is a ploy to drive more business to the restaurants. More and more of our tourism arrives by bus, brings everything with them, and leaves a lot of their garbage on our beaches. So this could be a tactic to support beach restaurants.

You might want to consider a rental in the Playa Buenavista area. About 30km north of Zihua. It's remote and isolated--the nearest anything is at least 20 minutes away--you will buy your own groceries and cook your own meals, but the trade-off is you have essentially your own private beach. No noise except for the surf, and almost no other human contact. So if your goal is to REALLY get away from it ALL...
