I have noticed that Alaska has only a few of their December LAX to Zih flights that still have seats available. It seems the last time I checked there was a number of open seats on many flights even with the "middle seat" blocked.

I have my reservation but was just wonder if anyone has any feedback (did they fill up or is something else goin on)?

This is just a guess, but it gets harder every year to get to Z. Westjet has cancelled many flights from Calgary, so maybe more Canadians than usual.

Before WestJet started to fly here, Alaska was the go to carrier and lots of long stay folks will remember using them and the companion fair etc.

For your information and possible usage, Volaris has a direct flight to Zihuatanejo from Tijuana that leaves around 3 am in the morning and you arrive at 8 am (2 hours ahead). The Volaris flight then turns around and heads back to Tijuana at 9 am. If you can make your way to San Diego, there are many options for getting down to the Tijuana airport, some more expensive than others, some very inexpensive but those entail taking public transit. Before Covid, I simply adored setting myself adrift on the San Diego Trolley down to the border crossing and then hopping on a decades-old school bus for 14 pesos to the Tijuana airport. I am hoping to visit in December but I will most likely have someone drive me to the Otay (pronounced O-Thai) Mesa CBX, Cross Border Express, where you literally walk across the border and are dropped into the Tijuana airport. However, it costs $30 round-trip to walk 100 yards and back. What a racket!

Leaves Tijuana at 3 am ?? Seems to be a very odd time and you would need to get to the airport around 1 to 2 am.

Volaris / CBX is the way to for me, I live in Chula Vista. The drawbacks are the hours of course and last time I checked they still didn’t offer real “long term” parking.

You are correct. Unless you are willing to find a side street and leave your car unattended, the parking is very expensive, currently $25 per day. You mention the hours as a drawback. It is my understanding that the CBX is open 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, yes? That it what is reported on their website.

Asi es, Amigo! Actually, I normally get there around 10 or 11 pm and just camp out for a few hours and try to get some sleep because it is almost impossible for me to get to sleep on a plane.

Volaris...TJ...ZIH. Cross at CBX yeah it's after midnight, but sleep on the plane, get to ZIH at 08:30 get off the plane and go home. Already cleared customs. Also very inexpensive.

My wife just booked on Volaris for us in January, and retuning in February. About MX$ 3,000 for both of us round trip. And that is the premium seats up front.

Aeromexico has a scam where for example you have a plastic tote that has already been
thru US and Mexican customs they insist that it be shrink wrap closed even though it may already be securely sealed. I believe they charged $400 pesos just to shrink wrap my tote that was already sealed. Don't recall what the freight price was for the tote. On Alaska as a 49'er I can have two bags in cargo for free. It is the way Volaris and Aeromexico make up their margins on the lower fares. Just travel in your underwear!

Hola
Casa Juan, we flew AeroMexico from Vancouver BC via Mexico city to Zihua in late Oct. My wife had a plastic tote and a regular one. No problems anywhere. Didn't have to have it sealed. No extra costs. Our checked baggage was checked all the way to Zihua. Didn't have to get it when we went through Mexican customs in Mexico City. Didn't see it til we got to Zihua where we didn't have to go through any customs or checks. Maybe this is a USA requirement?

Now Alaska lists only 1 day (Dec. 29) that they have seat available from LAX to Zih. Plenty of open dates for the return flight.

I flew Alaska down a couple of weeks ago. Even with the middle seats open when you are not in the same party, It was full!
