As of today, since April 18, 2020 Zihuatanejo has registered a cumulative total of 1,712 confirmed cases of Covid-19 (1 more than yesterday), 133 that have resulted in fatalities, 21 that are currently active, and approximately 1,445 that have recovered. Currently there are no active cases in La Unión and only one in Petatlán where our presidente was this past weekend.

I don't know what excuses Gringo and Canadian visitors are still using for walking around downtown without facemasks, but I continue seeing too many of them. They shouldn't be surprised if a bucket of water accidentally spills on their head.

There have been several earthquakes above 4.0 in our region recently. This is a bit alarming and serves as a reminder that we need to always be on our toes here. Folks need to have their important papers in a bag of sorts where you can grab them as you run out the door in case of a strong earthquake.

Our weather remains absolutely perfect. Just warm enough in the day to be considered hot (though not very) and cool enough at night for snuggling, which I highly encourage and recommend.

Every day my heart swells full with the amazing love of an incredible woman born here on Zihuatanejo's downtown beach. If I'm not the luckiest gringo in Mexico, I don't know who else it could be. Pobres de los demás hombres. ;-)

Plenty of vacation lodgings here offer perfect getaways from the madness occurring elsewhere. Just what the doctor ordered!

Follow-up - Troncones

It appears there is a cluster of Covid-19 cases in Troncones, but because either the people who need medical attention are being transferred to Zihuatanejo or they aren't being officially reported to the national database in a timely manner, they aren't showing up on the daily reports.

IMPORTANT! If you or someone you know has symptoms of Covid-19 or tests positive, PLEASE report it to either 911 (anywhere in the country) or here in Guerrero to 747 471 1863 .

It still is for people acting responsibly. Unfortunately I also read that one of Troncones most well known old-timers tested positive but apparently did not quarantine. I wouldn't hesitate to go to Troncones if I were seeking to take a vacation, but I also know who I would avoid. Still safer than many parts of the USA.

I am following up on this comment at the request of Dewey, who is likely the "old timer" you are referring to, but also just to remind everyone that rumors, especially malicious ones, are about the least helpful thing that could be happening right now.

Yes, he was exposed. He immediately quarantined himself and his lovely wife the moment they knew. He then was tested with both the antigen quick test and the PCR test. The antigen quick test came back positive. He then posted on local social media concerning his exposure and letting everyone know. While they have followed protocol as far as masking, distance, etc. he wanted to be certain everyone knew.

He has remained in quarantine since. Today, we are all relieved to learn, he received the results of the PCR test and it was negative. His wife was also tested and again, negative. The quick test has questionable accuracy, the PCR test, not so much.

My point here is accusing someone falsely of endangering the health and lives of others in a reckless fashion is not exactly the most responsible thing to do in these trying times. I will add that our "outbreak" here has been minor compared to other places but we certainly are not immune.

Yes, thank you, Wil. I just posted acknowledgement of my error elsewhere, but you beat me to it here while I was attending to other matters. I misunderstood a comment he himself made apparently in jest, and it wasn't until sifting through another hundred or so comments that I realized I had erred.

I've been hearing for days about an outbreak in Troncones, and I wish you or someone else had been more forthcoming about what was going on there so that I wouldn't have to play catch up. But thank you for posting this clarification. Lupita and I of course wish Dewey and Jill the best as always. I didn't realize you were now Dewey's spokesperson. He used to know how to post here and still has an account for whenever he decides to do so again.

Saludos.

And I sure hope you aren't insinuating I'm spreading "malicious rumors". There was nothing malicious about my comment, and I didn't even mention Dewey here, you did. Not sure why he needed to be mentioned at all or why a simple e-mail in private couldn't have been used to resolve any misunderstanding. But thanks again for helping to clarify the situation. I do appreciate it.
