Was I almost Ripped Off?

We just bought a car. Yay! During the process after we paid, I went to the Finanza Administracion to transfer the license plates name to my name. The salesmen from the dealership was going to 'assist me' with the process. This was on a Tuesday and of course the line was long. He went inside and after about 15 minutes, he said it would cost 8000 pesos. I told him I don't have that much money, we agreed to come back later when I had the money. So, on Thursday I went back to the Finanza Administracion. The salesmen could not make it, so I was on my own. so I finally get inside (long lines again) and give the paperwork for the transfer and to get the card/sticker. The salesman told me to go to a specific teller and she would know what to do. I gave my paperwork to said teller and about 20 minutes later she calls me to her station. She says, the cost will be 3250 pesos and adds ' es mas debajo' than 'said salesman' was asking.

This was eye opening. What just happened? Was this two people working together? does a salesman expect a commission for going to the finanza administracion? What is the normal cost for doing a transferencia ???

Wondering if anyone has any insight?? I haven't contacted or heard from the salesman since then. we were satisfied with the purchase process, not sure how we think about this last step..

I've always paid someone for this service. In your case the service fee was way too high, and you should go to the agency and complain about their agent trying to overcharge you (unless there was some misunderstanding). Posting their name here is also acceptable so that others can be warned.

This year vehicle registration cost is 552 pesos. That is for a vehicle that is not having anything changed, just the annual cost.

We also paid someone to handle it for us, a whopping 250 pesos that he uses to feed neighborhood dogs.

Not positive but I think the annual financeria charge for just the registration varies with the vehicle. My old beater with a heater was $567 pesos this year or up $15 pesos from last year.

Interesting. Our guy did 7 vehicles, all cost 552, and two other friends had the same experience. You must be special!

OR, is yours imported and legalized? That makes a difference.

He said he bought it here, and if it had already been imported, he was covered.

I am going to have to talk with the salesman and get some answers. Just doesn't make sense since everything seemed fine up until this happened.

It appears the salesperson was in cahoots with the person you paid for the tag. PROFECO is where you report them both.
