Question on covid restrictions and requirements for April

by seattlejim, Sunday, April 04, 2021, 11:35 (7 days ago)

Hello, I have been looking for a update on current covid restrictions as to wearing masks such as is it required that you must wear one while walking or running outside?
Any restrictions on the beaches or restaurants?
I did see that the curve was dropping via one site
I’ve looked for an official site or news with no luck.
Thx in advance and Happy Easter to everyone

The rules are that you wear a mask all the time.

We see many runners, some masked, some not. IF you are around others, running, on the beach, whatever, you are supposed to be masked.

The beach is still only open for limited hours, closed something like from 7pm to 7am. Not sure exactly. You may not take your own chairs or umbrellas, nor food and drink. You still can sit at hotel and restaurant chairs which are distanced.

Restaurants and hotels are limited to 60% occupancy. Those are the numbers through April 10.

Do you see those government regs changing after 4/10 as to the 100% must wear a mask?

I don't.

Vaccines haven't arrived in this area yet. We get a lot of tourists from inland areas, and often a lot of them. Crowds of people walking the streets. I don't see mask wearing being eliminated in the near future.

Hello SJ,
If you decide to come, please be responsible and bring masks and wear them. It is the right thing to do even if some are not doing it. We do the right thing because it is the right thing, and not because someone is watching.

I second BL's comment. If there's anything scarier or more irresponsible than a Mexican tourist without a facemask it's an Estadounidense tourist without a facemask.

Also, not many sidewalks or streets here are wide enough to be socially distanced, so wearing masks while outside helps.

Sounds like restrictions are still strong there so we decided and cancelled our trip fortunately it was all refundable. Hoping next year covid will be in the past and ZIH can get back to normal

I think a lot depends on your vaccination status. We are fully vaccinated, so the risk to both ourselves and others will be minimal. While things won't be quite normal, the modifications we will need to make won't be any different that what we are doing at home. Even though it won't be quite normal, it will be Zihuatanejo which is a big plus. We arrive next week, along with two other couples who are also fully vaccinated so we will have our own little bubble to visit with friends that we see every year there.

Yes, restrictions are here AND we feel super safe here. In my experience, most locals are really careful knowing the livelihood of this town depends on tourism. We feel safe going to restaurants, walking the beach, cycling, watching the beautiful sunsets. Of course, we use masks every time we are outside around people. We are lucky to be here now, and totally get it that people may feel safer elsewhere.

Take good care!
