It rained most of the day after a night of high wind gusts. Since Huracán Enrique is growing the waves hitting our coast keep growing as well. Unfortunately in spite of the obvious, tour guides continue telling people everything is fine, and folks continue entering the water, some barely getting out alive after being smacked by large waves and tumbled around by strong currents. Most tourists have no idea what a black or red flag means, and they ignore them anyway. Signage would help educate.

It got so cold last night that we had to turn off the fan (no need for it with hurricane winds gusting through the house) and we had to sleep under TWO sheets, just like the coldest nights of our winter. While it certainly breaks the monotony of our normally perfect weather, I feel bad for the tourists, especially those who are misled by unscrupulous travel agents and tour guides.

It looks like this weather may continue for at least another day, possibly two. But usually things calm down after the first week of July until late August, so enjoy it while it lasts. I certainly am. B-)

I hope folks will continue writing the authorities I list in my link and expressing their opposition to this ecocidal unsustainable hotel project. Every voice helps.

Although many folks who grew up here in the 50's, 60's and 70's still refer to this street as "la calle principal", its actual name is Calle Cuauhtémoc. It used to be that when you arrived by vehicle to Zihuatanejo this was the street you entered town by all the way to the waterfront. Cinco de Mayo was unpaved and more like a back alley 50 years ago and often full of mud, potholes and water during the rainy season.

We had to turn the fan off last night as well. I thought that might be illegal down here - first time I've done it!
