airport customs

Hello to all -- my husband and I arrived on Saturday and found the customs procedure to be quite different than it has been over the past 15 years. No more red light/green light random search. That day EVERYBODY's bags were searched with a fine tooth comb. Is this the new SOP or was this an isolated situation?
Thanks.

PIcked up a friend at the airport on Saturday, she got the green light for a change.

Thank you. I have family arriving this Saturday and wanted to give them an idea of what to expect.

We arrived a couple of weeks ago and it was a 50/50 thing. The first 20 groups got hit pretty hard and anyone with a Surfboard was doomed. Then things got better as people were starting to rumble as the line was not moving. We passed right through with a green and we were in the forward 25% of the arrivals, but it took us an hour after we got our bags. At the rate, I would guess the people at the end could have waited up to 3 hours. Not something that is very welcoming to someone coming on Vacation for a couple of weeks. To us it did not matter as we will be here a few months.

What a great idea, let’s put 2 planes worth of people in a small room and make them wait a couple of hours. Now that we just spread Covid to everyone, let’s go out and hang with the locals. What could go wrong?

It was pretty bad in May and horrible a couple of years ago. I know they used to look for beef but have no clue what they are looking for now. When I used to bring school supplies they always went over that with a fine tooth comb. I always had receipts so they would just give up. Maybe they’re trying to charge an import tax to someone that will be “discounted” if paid in cash.

They're just trying to keep their jobs.

So instead of getting everyone through in 30 minutes, they take 3 hours so they have enough work as tourism continues to decline. Unfortunately this will probably just add to the decline of tourism. Nothing like kicking yourself in the foot, kinda like having a kill sailfish tournament. Same crap goes on over here, just a different variation. Our system is to put the wife by the front of the line with a couple of suitcases so she can relax while I stand in line.

Let's hope it doesn't become as creepy as TSA.
Every time I go through the American rape-scanner they
Tell me my gluteal cleft lit up and they need to grope my ass.

Those scanners are the scammiest scanners ever. For me it's my left shoulder. Every. Damn. Time. I don't believe they actually detect anything.

Then there was that one time I heard the words that literally sent a chill up my spine "sir, you have alerted in the groin area".

I traveled a lot for my work, so I have had many occasions to learn to fear and absolutely loath TSA.

"I don't believe they detect anything."
Many people concur.
George Carlin's line about giving stupid people the
Illusion of safety comes to mind here.
