Does the US recognize that as an approved testing kit for re-entry?

The quick answer is No. The reason is that the at home test is not monitored. Many sites offer online monitoring of the testing process. Those would work, and the test they use is BiaxNow, or a close equivalent. We have the BiaxNow test for home use and use it to self test prior to visiting our grandchildren after traveling. It is available at CVS for $24. Each kit contains two tests. Fro best accuracy you do the first test 3 days after travel and then repeat 3-5 days later. Done in this manner it is nearly as good as the PCR tests.

That is correct, the test is accepted, but it must be monitored, usually by a video chat it’s a proctor watching you. Here is the actual text from the CDC site. See the second paragraph onward.

The test must be a SARS-CoV-2 viral test (nucleic acid amplification test [NAAT] or antigen test) with Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The testing procedure must include a telehealth service affiliated with the manufacturer of the test that provides real-time supervision remotely through an audio and video connection. Some FDA-authorized self-tests that include a telehealth service may require a prescription.

The telehealth provider must confirm your identity, observe the sample collection and testing procedures, confirm the test result, and issue a report that meets the requirements of CDC’s Order (see “What information must be included in the test result?” below).

Airlines and other aircraft operators must be able to review and confirm your identity and the test result details. You must also be able to present the documentation of test results to U.S. officials at the port of entry and local/state health departments, if requested.

If this is unmonitored you over paid.$24 through for the test, but without monitoring it would not work for re-entry. And since it is not PCR would not work for,Canada.

The state department rules for U .S citizens were written last January and I can’t find anything about these tests there. Whose rules do we follow? Our state department or cdc?

CDC. These tests are OK, but must be proctored. Do it yourself without proctoring will not work
