Just wondering if anyone has been successful adding a Mexican SIM card (or esim) to their phone and using a Mexican phone plan alongside their regular carrier? If so, which cell company was used?
Thanks!

Hola
I have not used the dual SIM phone thing, but I use a Mexican phone plan even when I am in Canada. I gave up on the very expensive Canadian phone plan. I use a smart phone with a SIM I got from Telcel with a Mexican phone number.
For 200 pesos for 30 days I get unlimited calling anywhere in Mexico, the USA and Canada. There is also a data plan with this. If you use data a lot, can get more data time by paying more. I have never run out of data though. You can set up an auto withdrawal plan with Telcel, so you don't have to be in Mexico to renew. The phone works well in Canada, although people that call you from a non-Telcel plan have to pay long distance fees. I have people in Canada call me and hang up after two or three rings. Then I call back. Some businesses though don't like calling long distance so I give them my email address to contact me.
This should work with your dual SIM phone.

I tried the Telcel webpage for an Esim activation but couldn't get anywhere. Oddly enough I can get an on-line Esim activation for Mexico in minutes through holafly.com or other European providers.

How hard can it be, buy a QR code online, scan and you're in. I want to take advantage of the eSim feature of my phone.

Hola
I think you don't need to pay extra. Don't use it a lot so not sure.

I have been using a Telcel sim for several years when I travel to Mexico

You don't have to pay extra for messaging.
I have my home provider set up on an E-sim and also use a Physical Telcel SIM card for the Mexican line.

They have several packages from

unlimited calling and texting USA, Can & Mex 400 MB data for 50 MXN
unlimited calling and texting USA, Can & Mex 4.5 GB data for 200 MXN
unlimited calling and texting USA, Can & Mex 12 GB data for 500 MXN

The easiest way I found to do this is to buy an prepaid SIM card and ask for it to be setup under the "Amigo Plan" you can buy the SIM cards at Telcel store, or an OXXO store

There is a branch of PayPal called Xoom that will let you add funds to your account from anywhere

I think the question was if the people texting to your Mexican number would be charged extra -- as they would be if they phoned you.

My understanding (having a TelCel Sim card and Amigo Plan) is that unless they had a plan which allowed them no charge texting to Mexico, they would be charged extra to text to you.
