According to state health authorities there are currently 21 active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, but 0 cases along the rest of the Costa Grande including neighboring Petatlán and La Unión. There were 0 patients in the Covid-19 sections of the Hospital General and the IMSS as of this morning. Guerrero is currently registering 10 active cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Nationwide there is a surge in active cases being reported, yet Guerrero, like most of the nation, is currently under Semáforo Verde with the exception of Aguascalientes, Chihuahua, Sonora and Baja California which are under Semáforo Amarillo. Locally we are all expecting a surge within the next 2 weeks.

There was a disturbing note in the news today about an elderly foreigner who uses a cane driving inebriated last night and hitting several cars as well as a building. Fortunately he apparently only suffered a bloody nose, but this is not the first time I've heard of a similar incident by foreigners who really should know better, especially at their age. Not good. We have enough drunk drivers without foreigners getting into the mix.

Today is Día de los Reyes Magos, the day children traditionally receive presents like they do on Christmas in Anglo-Saxon cultures. A sad day for us without our grandson, but a truly wonderful day for everyone with a child or grandchild to spoil a little bit. It is customary to share a rosca and chocolate caliente with friends and/or family members. Who got the baby Jesús? I did. (I'm pretty sure my wife and daughter always conspire together so that I do.) ;-)

If you haven't been out on the ocean here, now's an excellent time to take a charter and go see the whales who are currently present along our coast. I can recommend some excellent services.
