Guerrero's health authorities report there are currently 109 active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, Petatlán 1 and La Unión 0. Quite a difference from just a couple of weeks ago in the case of Zihuatanejo. Thus the stricter measures being implemented yesterday to reduce the spread of the contagions. Our health authorities have no illusions about what's happening and what to expect. Guerrero currently registers 40.5 active cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Unfortunately my wife and I are seeing way too many folks, foreigners and nationals, visitors and residents with "colds" out and about and acting like nothing. "Sólo es la gripa." Same thing the Presidente commented before testing positive. PLEASE folks, don't take this so lightly. There are still too many folks in poor health, both vaccinated and not, who remain at high risk and whom this damn virus can still kill, like the fully vaccinated gentleman who died in the local hospital last weekend. This is not about you or me, it's about US, and we all need to share some love right now and not unnecessarily put others at risk.

Fe de errata: I incorrectly reported last week that schools started last Monday, but they started THIS Monday.

The tours and boat trips, since they are outside would be extremely low risk especially when masked, with the possible exception of Picanté if it were crowded.

Has the local government considered canceling or at least minimizing the Sunday night activities? I know it is a traditional/family/community time but it risks being a super spreader event. When we were there the Sunday after Thanksgiving it was very crowded with very few masks being used. The maze created by the new trees isn’t conducive to social distancing.

Wow. When my sister and her family arrived one week ago, the positive Covid cases were 22. Yesterday 109. Mask up, distance and be careful out there.

And today ... 162.
I'd be willing to bet the actual number is much higher.
Sure hope I won't be stuck up here and missing Zihuatanejo again this year.
