Been 5 years since I have been back....questions?

Hello,
I am still a budget traveler if that is possible in Mexico anymore? Flying in end of month and looking for a basic, cheap, clean and safe room or basic apartment for a month. A bed and bath is fine. I usually bring an immersion coil for making coffee, tea etc. And then snacks, muffins etc. Then usually a daily mid day meal. Recommendations from those maybe who visit and do not live there...or if you do suggestions.
After a week, I will be heading to Michoacan by bus. I have stayed a Hotel Ulises, and rented from someone private and also another place near Ulises.
With Covid and flights canceled, is there low occupancy or not? I assume prices are much higher?!
It seems a lot has changed since I was last in Mexico for any length of time. Lived there 2014-15-16-17. Not sure what to expect?!

Oh, yes, it is still possible. Various accommodations can still be had for budget-minded travelers, especially if you are savvy with Airbnb and other such systems. There are rooms aplenty at this time. Meals are also very reasonable. Did you ever frequent the Mexican mercados? The fly in the ointment is not cost, it's the possibility of contracting Covid in a foreign country. Plenty of opportunity to read all about the fear and loathing of Covid on this forum!

Thanks. I did find a reasonable place on airbnb. I had Covid last month and I have been sicker with colds and flu, thanfully. It was not bad.
The one reason I thought it might be a good time to visit is I do not have to test on return to the U.S. because one will most likely test positive up to 90 days after.
For that reason, you only need a letter that you have "recovered from a doctor." Maybe I am crazy but it sounds like it is unlikely to get the variant again in the next 3 months. Another variant, who knows? Fingers crossed.

Careful renting from AirBnB since there are a lot of scammers and people not renting legally who announce there. If you rent an unregistered lodging and city inspectors show up you may be tossed out into the street without your belongings.

It seems legit since I spoke to someone about my bill and they emailed me etc. I think the credit card co would not pay bill either. They seem to have more security than in the past. A good thing I guess. It had good reviews.
