Alaska Air LAX direct flight

by Bill Fun, Wednesday, August 03, 2022, 16:45 (9 days ago)

Hi, Does anyone know if they cancel some or a number of their LAX flights in December?

Talking with the airline they indicated they cancel some but after a brief search she was only able to see the Saturday flight. However, their web site calendar had only 4 days "not available" in early December but doesn't allow me to pull a flight for several other days that the calendar indicates service.

Needless to say I still sorting through this.

Thanks

3 weeks ago I found out that the direct LAX Zihua flights for October were reduced to just Saturdays in favor of their SFO Zihua flights, not good for me. this of course may change as the season progresses .

We got canceled twice now leaving LAX this November. No biggie, just cancel two flights and had to rebook a couple days before and changing hotel reservations. All good.

Just learned our 12/1 Zihua to LAX was cancelled.

December 1

Interesting. Dec 1st is certainly well within the "season" for travellers to Zihua. I wonder if tourists are being turned-off by stories of general widespread airport chaos, higher prices, etc., or if the airlines are reacting to reduced interest in particular destinations.

I suspect, in this case, it’s Alaska cutting their schedule because of the continued pilot shortage.

NOTE this is for ZIH/LAX only. I did not look at SFO flights.

Looked at the calendar for December---they are not flying on 1,2,5,8,9 and 12

For November 3,4,6,7 10,11,13,14, 17

For October not flying Sunday Monday Thursday,Friday

September is the same except they are flying the 4th

January starts with daily flights.

Looking far ahead there are no flights at all scheduled after Jul 5

That exactly correct Timmac. We were originally booked November 4th to 18th then got canceled twice from 3 rd to the 2nd. So now 16 nights stay instead of 14. All good. Alaska did give us 7.5k miles for the inconvenience..

Were they elite qualifying miles? When they cancelled on us we got 15K miles each, 7,500 of which were EQMs.

No. We’re not EQ because we’re not at 100K. We’re around 80k

Speaking of Alaska miles. 4 levels, 20k, 40k, 75k,100k. So if those are Alaska miles, you”d be gold 75, next to the top. If you fly on Oneworld alliance companies, you might want to credit all your miles to Alaska. The only caveat is that for Gold 75, you need 12 segments on Alaska metal. (6 for 40 K).
Since joining OneWorld upgrades aren’t as frequent. The one benefit we like is being able to sit in their premium economy seats with pretty much any fare except their basic economy..

while we were buying tickets for a trip to SFO, we noticed that there was a “schedule change” on our flight that we had to call them about. It turns out that our return flight on December 8 had been cancelled. When we called to rebook the flight on December 9 had also been cancelled. I don’t know if all Thursday and Friday in December have been cancelled. We decided to come home a day early on December 7. It was simple enough to once we called them. They even offered to put us on another carrier, but that would have cost us Alaska miles. They will usually email about, things like this, but neither of us remember getting an email. It would be a good idea to check the APP now and the. To make sure nothing has changed.

Yes, I have yet to get an email while is very bad form. I think I got my options figured out with it looking like at least Thursday, Friday, and Monday flights were eliminated in early December.

I was just scrambling yesterday since the Alaska lady couldn't really help me lay out my options and the web site calendar function wasn't working properly.

Thanks

I’m surprised that when you talked to Alaska they couldn’t help you. They have been very helpful to us. When they cancelled a flight to Baltimore, we were able to rebook into Dulles easily. As an apology we each got 30,000 miles, 15,000 of which counted for elite status. We are Gold 75k, so perhaps that makes a difference.

I don't fly enough to get "status" with any airline, but I have noticed that I get treated better when I've paid cash for my ticket vs using miles or credit card perks.

For us the nicest thing is the early boarding. We travel carry-on only and never have to worry about space in the overheads. We also get upgrades to their extra space coach seats, which is mainly nice because you get off the plane faster.

We flew back from LAX to here Tuesday on Alaska. We paid for first class. IF we have to return to the states again, we will definitely return first class. The lounge at LAX was wonderful, the service at check in too. We were traveling with two 9 foot board bags and they took care of everything. The seats on the flight were great, as was the food and beverage service. Between the lounge and the flight, we really enjoyed our return home.

Would we do it from here to the US? Nope, the lounge was a big part of the draw for us.

The LAX lounge and for that matter, the SEA lounge are very basic. Much better than mingling with crowds but very basic. The American Express Centurian lounges are quite nice, with much better food and drinks. Most of the foreign lounges we’ve been in are better than the,Cemturian. So far the best was the BA Concorde lounge (first class) lounge at Heathrow. A sit down order from a menu restaurant, chaise lounges to watch the activity and even places to shower. All for only 10k miles more than business class. It’s nice to treat yourself when traveling.

Volaris has this great broom closet in the Tijuana airport where you can kinda' stretch your limbs. Just be careful not to knock over the cleaning fluids.

I love you. We fly Volaris. We get there, no frills, but we get there. God willing and the crick don’t rise.

I love you, too, Fran! And I especially adore this forum about my favorite place in the Universe. It is my daily welcome respite from the cruelty, vitriol, and hatred that infects so many online forums and our global community. ¡Gracias sin fin, Señor Rob!

It is interesting to note that we currently read and hear of never ending lists of cancellations from so many of the airlines. In contrast, Volaris seems to be adding flights. I have flown on Volaris four times so far this year, twice to Zihua, once to Puerto Vallarta and Huatulco. Not a peep about cancellations.

Just for grins I checked to see if I could fly Volaris from SEA to ZIH. It’s complicated but doable. We’d have to fly Seattle Guadalajara, Mexico City, Zihuatanejo. (We’d have to book the last leg separately) A total of three flights with the first being a red eye leaving Seattle at 9:25 PM. The total per person is just over $850 for the same dates we have with Alaska.
The Alaska trip is two flights with no red eye. The price for the Alaska flights is $1050 per person. This is the price for the first class tickets we bought.

There’s really no contest from Seattle, two flights rather than three, no red eye, first class vs coach, with 28-30 inch pitch on Volaris for $200 more.

But with the $200 you saved you could buy that chicken farm in Iowa that you've always dreamed of!

Why about the Chicken Ranch? $200 would just about pay for,the antibiotics I’d need.

We are flying on a free tickets, so I just called the general reservation number. The lady didn't seem too experience and had to check with her manager once or twice.
