Health officials for Guerrero report there are currently 5 confirmed active cases of Covid-19 in Zihuatanejo, NO cases in La Unión, NO cases in Petatlán, NO cases in Técpan, 34 in Acapulco, and 148 in the entire state.

The winds from then-Tormenta Tropical now-Huracán Kay continued gusting intermittently overnight and throughout the day, but nothing near the strength of first gusts Sunday afternoon. It barely sprinkled in downtown Zihuatanejo overnight. We didn't get any real rain until around sunset Monday, and then only a brief moderate rain. No thunder and lightning.

Much of the beach sand blew into the nearby streets, and I imagine our home wasn't the only one that also had sand blow into it before we could get the windows shuttered. City workers were shoveling it off the too-wide concrete walkway along the waterfront for several hours this morning, but then much of it blew back before the rain finally arrived. The storm is heading away from us now, and though we still expect some cloud cover and high surf from the storm for a few days, it looks like worst has passed us. We got lucky. Unfortunately several lives were lost in Acapulco from the rains. The high surf also closed the port and piers to smaller vessels. They will hopefully be able to reopen this Tuesday.

A sea turtle's nest apparently not only had its eggs removed, but several were apparently consumed on the spot as the discarded empty shells attest to. Bummer. Tormenta Tropical Kay looms in the distance.
