I know about slowly dialing 001 before dialing a US # , but I find most of the time after say 11 am it is hard not impossible to get a call thru on my Verizon phone that uses either Movistar or Telcel when roaming in Mexico. Movistar seems particularly poor at making a connection to the US, Telcel is better.

Often I have to use my Mexican Telcel phone to get out.

Other than give up, what is the secret?

Assuming that you have mobile cell phone, have you tried dialing "+1" before the U.S. number?

Another trick is to get a free Google phone number at https://voice.google.com. You can then make Voice-Over-Internet Protocol (VOIP) phone calls for free to the U.S. from your computer.

I use whatsapp for both texting and phone calls. You always get through and the calls and texts are encrypted. most of the locals use WhatsApp.
