Long story but in confusion of Mexicana demise we ended up with flight back to Chicago from Mexico City. Any suggestions regarding best way to get to Mexico City for 3 pm flight, is taking the bus a possibility?

The airlines out of Chicago are using AeroMexico. When Mexicana shut down, we had 2 tickets for both October and Feb (can't wait till the 17th of Feb) using air miles. We bought tickets on AeroMexico for our Oct. flight and Continental from Lexington, Ky for our Feb. flight. By flying Continental we will from Houston to Ixtapa. In Mexico City, AeroMexico uses T-2 & if you fly into T-1 you must take the tram between the 2 terminals.

Have you looked into flying Interjet to Toluca and taking the shuttle bus from there?

Otherwise the bus from Zihuatanejo is an excellent option, though you'll probably want to leave a day earlier and enjoy an evening and a morning in Mexico City, a fascinating and vibrant metropolis.

Hi Rob; you are totally right - I think the best option is Interjet and currently they have discounts; I have a second domicile in Metepec (closed to Toluca) and I'm using the service once a month; the flight is around 30 minutes instead of around 10 hours on bus; now it is also possible to fly with Interjet to Mexico City. Look at: http://www.interjet.com.mx/

I fell in love with Toluca last Spring with it's architecture, food, arts, ancient ruins & other sights.
I toured Metepec's "craft" street one day but found out later that the best pottery can only be purchased directly from the artists. Would appreciated more info.

Sorry for the delay in answering
We settled in Metepec when the "tourist street" and its shops didn't even exist (more than 20 years ago) and we still know the real artist, that means the persons who make the pottery. Have a look at the photos; if you want to see the originals, I invite you to visit me in Barra de Potosi.Pls. contact me at Cel 75-55-56-25-26.

Thanks for good information. Any suggestions about a good spot to stay in Mexico City if we take the bus Friday AM (how long a ride by the way) and need to be at airport by 1 pm or so?

Take Interjet as El suggested. Actually cheaper than the bus & 45 minutes versus 12 hours!
Now if you want to make a trip out of it stopping along the way then do the bus.
