If you haven't noticed they have left the hillside.
Squatters

Yes, I believe that was last weekend they began leaving after the government promised that needy families would get preference in a public housing program that is being developed. Amazing how all those squatters instantly found a place to return to. Too bad all the ecological damage remains. More squatters are still appearing on other hillsides. I can see them appearing almost daily on the hill behind downtown Zihuatanejo and friends and neighbors with different vantage points report the same from their neighborhoods in other location here in Zihuatanejo. Most distressing is to still see well-intentioned foreigners being used to help legitimize some of these squatter communities and make them even more permanent. They believe because a squatter community is "regularized" and because some local officials tell them it's okay, that it's fine to get involved, and they still criticize me for pointing this out to them. Oh well. Time has already proven me right unfortunately.
I had heard it was more than the government that got them to move.
I've noticed that every year there are more little huts on the hiiltops of La Ropa.
