Día de los Los Reyes Magos

Before our local culture was "diluted" by well meaning but somewhat naive foreigners bringing their own Christmas culture with them, local children never received presents from Santa Claus on December 25 but instead received them on the morning of January 6 from los Reyes Magos (aka los Santos Reyes). So that is why you may have seen vendors set up with gifts for children all over town these past few days.

On January 6 we also share a rosca de los reyes with our family and friends, and whoever gets a baby Jesus in their piece of the rosca invites their companions to atole and tamales on Día de la Candelaria on February 2.
