It started with Will, and most recently continued with Jeff's contest, so I thought I'd share some of the photos I took during our recent trip. Were I a bit less lazy, I suppose I could post them individually, but it's just so much easier to give you guys a link. For those of you that must know they were taken with my new Canon SX-30 IS. The incredible thing about this camera is its monster 35X zoom. Sure it's not an SLR, but given that I hate carrying a lot of weight and lenses, for me it's more than an acceptable compromise. Enjoy!:-]

Great images, thank you for posting them. In my opinion, a link is always better for an album of that nature... takes up less of Rob's bandwidth.

Nice shots! Okay, I'll admit it -- I have a touch of zoom envy!

You may be right. Have you researched it at all? I'm wondering if the image stabilization technology's come far enough to work with a 35x lens.

The reviews are fairly critical, in my opinion. I would agree that if you take photos for a living an SLR is a much better choice. With the larger sensor, an SLR will produce a better picture since there is more data available. I suppose another possible downside is that does not have an option for RAW. That said, I think it is a great choice for traveling because of it's small size and versatility. In terms of the IS technology, most of the close ups were at full optical zoom, admittedly in daylight, with the ISO set to either 80 or 100. The picture of the sailboat, which was near Owen's while I was on the beach at Catalina, ventured just a bit into digital zoom to frame it better. It is incredibly easy to change settings in the manual mode, and you can actually save two of your favorite sets of settings. Although you guys are much better photographers than I am, I think you would be very happy with this camera. I know I am.

Thank-you so much for the BEAUTIFUL photos!!

I was wondering, what is the NAME of the flower "Wow!" ?

I took some photos of it also, last week when I was down there, and have no idea what it is.

A friend is going down to Zihua at the end of the month, and it looks like you have found some very wonderful spots. Do you have recommendations for her, where to go for nature hikes? and small towns worth visiting?

Thanks,

N. Berrigan

Not sure what the name of the flower is. Most of the pictures I posted were taken on the tours we took with Will (Hunter-MX). He posted just above you, and his e-mail addy is in his post. We did both a nature and an archaeological tour. Both were WELL worth the price of admission. He is pretty busy, so I would contact him at your earliest convenience with your dates. You will have a great time and see a side of the area that will have you loving it and its people even more.
