Direct flights from Milwaukee & Chicago

This can't hurt. Go to applevactions.com and at the bottom of the home page where it says "sign up for vacation specials", click on Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo. On the bottom of the next page, enter your e-mail. I have to believe that if enough people show an interest in this destination, they may think twice about run flights there again. Have everybody you know who goes to Zihua do the same thing. The sooner, the better.

This looks to me like a general sign up. I don't see how you are indicating a specific interest in Zih.

I like your cause but I don't want another promotional email unless it will do some good. Maybe an email directly to Apple would be more effective.

You need to "sign up for e-mail specials" and click on you prefered destination. Can't stop them from e-mailing other stuff but this can't be worse than other crap we all get daily. And you can always unsubscribe.

Email specials

It's really simple to avoid getting spam. Just set up a separate email addy to use for filling out forms like that. (gmail, yahoo etc.) I enter online sweepstakes (and before you start laughing, 2 years ago went China for a 12 day cruise tour) and all of these are entered with a gmail addy, which I check once a week or so and hit delete.

I have that account, Tim. Maybe I'll just play it through and see what happens.

When Apple last had a direct flight from ORD on USA 3000, the times were dreadful (I'm talking seriously dreadful) and the prices were very high. I have little confidence in Apple but I'll give it a shot. Anything is worth a shot.

Until recently, we had always traveled to Zihua/Ixtapa via a direct flight out of Chicago - primarily through Apple. What previously was a 4 hour flight, has now become a full day of travel with one or more connections! As much as we love Z, this year we have decided to go to PV due to the ease of travel, and the cost of the flight which was about half of what it would have been to fly to Zihua. We will very much miss our favorite spots this year.... the restaurants, beaches, and people of Z, and we hope that some airline will soon realize the need to schedule a non-stop flight from Chicago !!

As long as the news about Mexico is bad and the lesser number of tourist going to "Z" & "I", Apple will not do a charter. We just got back home to Lexington, Ky Monday night after spending 18 wonderful days in "Z"- the tourist traffic is way down and could not believe the smaller amount of Americans at Pacifica when we went over there from the Grand for a beach day a couple of times. Before Mexicana quit operating, we flew Mexicana out of O'Hare and the fares were cheaper flying out of O'Hare than Lexington. The r/t we just finished flying from Lexington is $150ea cheaper out of Lexington than out of O'Hare on Continental lv Jan 04 2012 and rt Jan 23 2012. The price went up about $75 ea while in Mexico. We had not firmed up our reservations for Jan so we missed the cheaper flight. Now it seams Continental by way of Houston is faster than Mexico City. Right now looking at $1,113.56 r/t for 2 booking at Continental- looked at our air miles card and the 2 tickets were 1293.56 before using air miles plus an extra $50.00 per ticket.

Good idea, but think you will have to get funjet involved as well. Seems neither of of them can fill up a plane, but if you add up the 2, they can do it. As evidenced with Suncountry out of MSP.

I'm actually flying to Z the end of this month with a ridiculous flight on Delta north to MSP and then non-stop south from there to ZIH. Did I miss the memo? When did Chicago O'Hare start playing second fiddle to MSP in mustering up non-stops flights to Zihuataenjo? You'd think they'd have at least one daily or a couple of flights a week from Chicago during the so-called high season, right?

OK, tj. I went to Apple. I signed up. They sent back an email telling me to enter a password which did not work. Tried several times. No go.

So I wrote an email asking about a direct flight for 2012. Here's the reply. They don't plan any non-stops to ZIH from ORD but they will be happy to provide a link telling me where I can go to get one of their non-stops to somewhere else. With friends like that, I don't think Zihuatanejo needs many enemies. Well, suffice to say, I am not going to sign up for Punta Cana. Or for one of their over-priced scheduled flights to ZIH. Sigh. Nice try, tj.

Hello Fran,

Thank you for your interest in Apple Vacations. At present, we currently are not offering any nonstop flights on Apple charters to Zihuatanejo for 2011-2012,however, we do offer scheduled air service to this destination from Chicago. For your convenience, please find a link here to our website for a listing of our nonstop flights on Apple charters from Chicago (emphasis mine). I hope this is helpful. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope that you understand.

I had about as much luck as you, only worse, trying to book a trip with Apple for this past 1st. week of Mar. TJ might be better off lobbying AirTran for a nonstop out of MKE. They do one down to PVR.
