The archaeological museum in the village of Soledad de Maciel, more affectionately known locally as La Chole, has now officially opened to the public. Please visit the museum as well as the village itself and buy some of their local products. They especially need our support now more than ever!

"Missed it by that much." It was nearly ready to open when we were there. It looks incredible. We toured the are for several hours with Wil and it was simply a marvelous day. To imagine the history involved, and to be able to walk around the village with one of the residents was very special. If you've never had a chance to go there, you simply must. If you've been before go again. I think of all the things we've done "out of town" over the years this was, and will be, my favorite!

I am very excited it is open. I have been waiting years. If anyone is interested in touring the area with me, know that a portion of my earnings go to support the family that helped get everything started out there. I am proud to say I have been visiting this area long before it was "known" as an area of such importance and will continue to support the people and projects there in every way I can.

John and I went to visit this site with Cecil of Our House in Barra. The site was amazing but the archeologists weren't working that day. I know where we are going next year. I can hardly wrap my mind round this.

How does one get to La Chole? Is it accessible by micro or other transit option?

BTW Where is La Union? We were catching the bus to Los Achotes and one of the white buses was going to La Union. Am I missing something good?

We too missed it by a hair! Left on the 17th!

We were in La Chole years ago before the excavations began and toured their little private museum. My wife took a short walking tour while I stayed on the porch and shared a few cervecas y refrescos with the family.

Back in December.

Missing Z and all our friends already! And you too Rob!
