Tips
A little info about calling here
long distance: our country code here in Mexico is 52, and our local area
code (LADA) for the Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa area is 755. So, for example, to
call from the U.S.A. or Canada you would dial 011-52-755 then the local
number. Most Zihuatanejo numbers begin with 554, and most Ixtapa and Troncones
numbers begin with 553.
We do have cellular phone
services here, but check with your local company first to find out if
you can receive calls here on your cellphone. Local cellular phone service
providers currently are TelCel, IUSACEL, and MoviStar.
To make a local call from
a stationary phone to a cellphone first dial 044 followed by the 10-digit
number. To make a long-distance call from a stationary phone
to a cellphone first dial 045 followed by the 10-digit number. To make
a long distance call from abroad to a Mexican cellphone add the number
1 after the country code 52 followed by the 10-digit number. Under the
new cellphone policy "Whoever calls, pays" all national long-distance
calls from stationary phones to cellphones cost MX$3.48 per minute (Mexican

Prepaid phone cards are
readily available at many local stores for use in the Telmex public phones
as well as for cellular phones.
*NOTE* It is substantially more expensive to make long-distance
calls from here to other countries than to call here from there. So if
you call home from your hotel expect to pay quite a bit more than if someone
calls you from abroad. If you need to call home, I recommend that after
they answer you have them call you back. You'll save a bundle that way!
