Just returned from the area. Its hot and humid so when you get that very needed rental car make sure it has a/c. We stayed at playa kandahar. It is very remote, but for a couple of surfers its heaven right before your eyes. The surf was BIG everywhere. Manzanillo, is great. Saladitas is wonderful .60 beers and food to die for, not to mention the 10 foot wave breaking down the point for 300 yards, and a paddle to match. The ranch, accessible mostly by boat, is a world class wave, that will break your board any day of the week!! My wife got sick of all the wildlife crawling everywhere, so we got a room in IX for 2 nights at the Barcelo. Its a great place must see. Stay away from the Aristos or any other place with no a/c. Plenty of places to eat dont bother with the all-inclusive, or the sotavento hotel with its 1,387 steps to the beach. Spend less time in Zih, and go to the island for a day. Be careful on the road to Troncones or Majagua. Playa Kandahar has the most well kept grounds, and a great big pool to kick back in when your done for the day, 2 thumbs up from me.
