If you stop over in Mexico City you can change some dollars for pesos there. I don't recommend carrying more cash than you would need for 2 or 3 days. You should use an ATM or credit card to get money from the local ATM's in Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa whenever you need it. You'll get the best exchange rate that way.

You don't need to bring any food with you. We eat quite well here. The closest market to La Ropa Beach will be our newest supermarket called "Comercial Mexicana" just behind the "Central de Autobuses" (our bus station), but you will enjoy shopping at our traditional local produce & farmer's market in downtown Zihuatanejo much more.

Deluxe express air-conditioned buses leave from Zihuatanejo to Acapulco several times daily. The details of the trip have been posted here several times before. Please use the Website Search engine at the top of the Message Board to search for "Acapulco bus" and you should find several helpful messages.

I highly recommend introducing your children to the beauty of the underwater life here. You can take them to Las Gatas Beach where you can rent them all kinds of inflatable toys and snorkeling gear. The water inside the reef at Las Gatas is very shallow and clear and is an excellent place for them to learn and practice snorkeling. It should be a wonderful experience of discovery for them. Who knows? Maybe one of them will grow up to be the new Jacques Cousteau?
