Halloween and Day of the Dead

Halloween is indeed celebrated by the children here, but with a twist... they trick-or-treat from Halloween until the Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on November 2nd.

Halloween is a ritual imported from the U.S. culture, it is not native to Mexican culture as is Día de los Muertos where the families clean and adorn the graves of deceased loved ones and set out offerings of their favorite foods and drinks as well as other mementos from their lives.

The children usually trick-or-treat in the downtown area of Zihuatanejo going from business to business as well as the residences here.

Usually there are some Halloween costume parties in some of the hotels and discos in Ixtapa.
