On October 30 there will be a competition of altars for Día de los Muertos in the zócalo. There will also be ballet folklórico as well as the traditional Danza de El Cortés, the latter usually taking place throughout the streets and beaches of downtown Zihuatanejo (just follow the sounds of the drumming on large cans).

I'd also like to take the time to remind our visitors that we do not celebrate Halloween here, and in our attempt to preserve Mexico's cultural heritage the community would respectfully appreciate it if visiting and resident foreigners would not attempt to impose this over-commercialized Anglo celebration on our local children, no matter how well-intentioned. Locally and nationally we are also to blame for the confusing commercialization associated between the two celebrations, and we recognize this and are trying to bring back traditional cultural values to our children. So your cooperation and understanding would be much appreciated.
