We were at La Chole a few years ago. The site had not been excavated (except for some grave robbery). The local grocery store - such as it is - has a glass case with a few pre-columbian items on display. A couple of the local kids offered some small items for sale, which they had found in the woods, or so they said. Warning: taking artifacts out of the country is illegal! On the walk to the site we were shown an enormous cactus said to be 350 years old. I would love to hear about some daytrips one could take in the area; the Petatlán gold market, etc. are of little interest to us.
