My husband and I just returned from a nice relaxing week in Zihuatanejo in a nice hotel on La Ropa. The vacation would have been perfect if we hadn't 'lost' 400$ cash which was taken from our hotel room safe (over the course of different days). The hotel was a nice high-end place and we are both experienced world travelers. Nothing like that ever happened to us. We didn't know what to do and told the management who also didn't know what to do. We told after it happened the first time, then it happened again. They talked to the maid, according to them the only suspect who of course denied it. We were asked to talk to her ourselves, but didn't feel comfortable with this since we didn't want to accuse anyone particular. The hotel only gave us a discount on the 10% service fee, nothing more. I would like to know: has something like that ever happened to you? What did you do or what would you do? What do you think you can expect as an appropriate response from the hotel management? Should we have called the police?
Any input would be appreciated. Of course we will not return to the hotel, but Zihuatanejo is a real great place!!! And we loved Sylvia's yoga classes, the kayak trip with Brian to Barra la Potosi, Las Gatas and the hike up to the lighthouse!
