Apr 1, 2006: Zihuatanejo: Catalina Beach Resort: "So happy! The Catalina was right for us!"

The locat1on of the Catalina was excellent...my husband myself and our 14 year old daughter had such a relaxed and much needed vacation here at spring break. We had a deluxe air conditioned bungalow, it was simple, spacious, clean not new but comfortable with an outdoor private covered terrace opening onto an amazingly large (huge) shared terrace with a view to die for! We loved the sunset fresh water pool as well as the beachfront palapas. It was never crowded so it was easy to get a nice place. Everyday we enjoyed La ropa beach and all it had to offer; lovely sand, wonderful waves to wade and play in .even parasailing on one day for our girl and a half hour jetski with Dad on another, both quite a thrill ....so many restaurants to enjoy so fresh and really tasty food..lots of good vegetables, salads, fruit drinks, seafood, chicken and meat dishes all prepared in many different ways..and Mexican style too.. great corn chips and delicious guacamole with limes of course. The restaurant at the Catalina was appreciated too ! great view. good fast service and good food(super clean kitchen too). I loved the beachfront restaurants, so idyllic especially sitting on the sand at night great food and company under the stars and moonlit sky with the waves right there. Yes there are stairs at the Catalina but they were just fine for us..surrounded by tropical gardens they were just part ot the landscape. The service and staff were laid back friendly and helpful when needed they made our stay comfortable. It was easy to catch a cab, there usually was one in the driveway outside of the lobby. Celso or Javier at the front desk would advise us about fares mostly 30 pesos to town or info like tours to take or how to get to places ourselves ie; los Gatos... our 7 days here were really fine we stayed put for the first few days , then.. We went on trips to Zihua town shopping and eating,we watched the local dance performances on the centro stage in the evenings , went snorkling and kayaking on Isla Ixtapa, bicycling through an ecological park with Paulo our very knowledgable flora and fauna guide... we had a great stay...and the construction being done on the lobby level of the hotel did not affect us at all...hardly knew it was going on. We loved it here but we are the kind of travellers that like the freedom to run about and try the different restaurants and experience the atmosphere of being in another culture. So we do not care much to stay at an all inclusive...if you are like us and stairs are not an issue, this is a wonderful place you might like too! We did. Thank-you to Eva at the Catalina.
