Deep sea days - Sailfish strikes were fewer than the usual Dec to Feb season even with the new moon. They also were smaller – in the 50 to 70 lb class. The few strikes did result in hookups. Our group averaged one sail per boat per day (releasing all). Colder water brought in the marlin. One of our group battled a 200+ blue (her first) for over an hour on the light sailfish tackle! Another was reported at the pier. During the week, we saw only a few boats with sailfish back at the pier (a good thing). Those un-released fish were too small to be strung up on the “gallows”. On Shore days – Good. We found Bonito outside the bay and to the north. Enough for lunch (tiritas and a la plancha) on Ixtapa Island and dinner at the hotel. Additional were released. Jacks were caught off Playa Linda. Line cutting barracuda were found around the rocks south of Ixtapa Island. Two nice schools of Black tuna only three miles offshore, yielded another Ixtapa Island lunch and hotel dinner.
