The park is pretty. Much more so than the town of Uruapan itself which is only so-so in my estimation (Morelia is far prettier). It's certainly worth a visit if you're already planning to pass through Uruapan, or have other business there, but frankly I'd not travel all the way from Barra de Potosi just to visit the park. If you plan it in conjunction with a visit to Patzcuaro & Morelia, then yes. Getting there is pretty easy: either you drive out on the new autopista or get a bus from Zihua. The park is close to downtown. Swimming? Stick with Barra de Potosi. If you decide to make the trip, plan on staying over night in Uruapan or better, in Morelia. Should you overnight in Morelia, I'd suggest you consider the Hotel Casino (Best Western) which is a moderately priced, somewhat historic hotel and is located in the center of Morelia fronting the "zocalo". It's possible, but Uruapan is rather too far for a relaxing "return the same day" sort of trip. Enjoy!
