Well you don't want to sponsor their visit, nor do you want the people to go in to the embassy and tell them anything about having family or friends in the USA. So your "sponsorship" does not apply to visits, and beyond that, you don't want them to give the embassy staff any indication that they might have any connections to the USA that may cause them to want to stay.

They have to get a passport, which is very easy. Then, they need to get an appointment at the embassy. The wait is about 3 weeks. They have to go to the embassy, in person. The interview starts the moment you arrive at the embassy, as they are watching you on camera. It seems they pretty much decide whether or not to give you a visa sometime after you arrive, but before your interview starts. This means you have to dress nice, act civilized, and don't be seen accompanied by an American anywhere on the embassy property.

The amount of money you make, etc, is secondary to knowing how to play the game.

They give out a fixed number of visas per day. It costs $100 USD to apply.
